BREAKING: Integrity Commissioner rules Premier Doug Ford did not violate the province's ethics laws in naming Ron Taverner to be OPP commissioner. #onpoli
The full report from the integrity commissioner is available online here: oico.on.ca/docs/default-s…
The report on the Ron Taverner selection does not fully exonerate the government. The integrity commissioner finds "troubling aspects to the (hiring) process that may have led, perhaps unintentionally, to a preference being given to one candidate."
Doug Ford's chief of staff, Dean French, "recommended to the Secretary of Cabinet that Mr. Taverner be considered for the OPP Commissioner
position," says the integrity commissioner. "Given its importance, I have reproduced Mr. French’s evidence on this point in its entirety:"
Two very different versions of who triggered the change in job qualifications for the OPP post that allowed Ron Taverner to apply, from secretary of cabinet @SteveOrsini and Ford's chief of staff @Dean_French #onpoli
"What I found most disconcerting in all the evidence were the text messages (from @SteveOrsini to @Dean_French) on Mr. Taverner’s progress throughout the process. Anyone examining these messages would have serious doubts as
to the fairness of the process to the other candidates."

Interim Liberal leader John Fraser says the integrity commissioner’s recommendations on changing the hiring process must be put in place “so that nothing like this ever happens again”
