1/Good afternoon, Maine. Today is a somber day. @MEPublicHealth is reporting the deaths of 12 individuals w/#COVID19.

Their deaths brings the total number of individuals who have passed away w/COVID in Maine to 189.
2/In addition, #Maine logged 255 new cases of #COVID19, for a total of 10,799 individuals.

Right now, 105 people are in the hospital w/COVID. 43 of them are in the ICU and 9 are on a ventilator.
3/Our 7-day test positivity rate stands at 2.62%.

Roughly 1 month ago (10/24), it was 0.55%. #COVID19 #Maine
4/Our testing volume stands at 727/100K.
5/Also, 21% of yesterday's cases were from Penobscot county, 19% from Cumberland, and 17% from York.
6/The choices that we, as a state, make this week will affect whether record-setting days like today remain a rarity or become the norm.

1/I've previously referenced a study from Kansas' @KDHE looking at the impact of face coverings on reducing #COVID19 on a population level.

2/"After the governor’s executive order, COVID-19 incidence decreased (mean decrease of 0.08 cases per 100,000 per day; net decrease of 6%) among counties with a mask mandate but continued to increase (mean increase of 0.11 cases per 100,000 per day; net increase of 100%)..."

1/Good afternoon, #Maine. We have sadly crossed the 10,000 case milestone w/#COVID19.

@MEPublicHealth is reporting a total of 10,123 individuals w/#COVID19 (+165).

Another individual has died w/COVID. He was a man in his 70s from Cumberland Co.
2/His passing marks the 174th death w/#COVID19 in #Maine. We offer his family, friends, and community our condolences.

7713 individuals have recovered (+123).
3/Cumulatively, 636 have been hospitalized. In the past 30 days, 158 have been hospitalized.

And right now, 86 people are in the hospital w/#COVID19 in #Maine.

41 of them are in the ICU and 11 are on ventilators.

We wish them all a speedy recovery.

1/Good afternoon-@MEPublicHealth is reporting 8944 individuals with #COVID19 (+153). Of those, 8006 are confirmed (+124) and 938 are probable (+29).

6681 have recovered (+84).
2/Sadly, two additional Maine people have died w/#COVID19: a woman in her 80s from Somerset Co. and a man in his 80s from Kennebec Co.

They mark the 164th and 165th deaths in Maine associated with #COVID19.

We offer our condolences to their families and friends.
3/Right now, 71people are in the hospital with #COVID19 in #Maine (+4).

24 of them are in the ICU (+1) and 7 are on a ventilator (=).

106 ICU beds are available.

Of those, 7882 are confirmed (+134) and 909 are probable (+18).
2/Sadly, another individual has passed away.

She was a woman in her 80s from York County. Her passing marks the 163rd death in Maine associated with #COVID19.

We offer her family, friends, and community our condolences during this time of grief.
3/Overall, 6597 individuals have recovered (+169).

Hospitalizations continue to increase. Right now, 67 people are in the hospital (+1). 23 of them are in the ICU (+5) and 7 are on ventilators (+1).

108 ICU beds are available.

1/Good afternoon, #Maine. @MEPublicHealth is reporting 8202 total cases of #COVID19 (+142). 7300 of those are confirmed and 902 are probable.
2/Sadly, 2 more people have died w/#COVID19. One was a man in his 80s from Knox County and the other was a woman in her 70s from Waldo County.

We offer their families our condolences during this time of grief.

This brings the total number of deaths to 158, sadly.
3/Hospitalizations continue to increase.

Right now, 59 people are in the hospital. 16 of whom are in the ICU and 6 on a ventilator.

1/Just updated scientific brief on community use of cloth masks to control the spread of #COVID19 from @CDCgov: cdc.gov/coronavirus/20…
2/Important: "Masks also help reduce inhalation of these droplets by the wearer (“filtration for personal protection”)."

Previous data focused on reducing spread by an infected person (i.e., 'source control').
3/How?

"Studies demonstrate that cloth mask materials can also reduce wearers’ exposure to infectious droplets through filtration, including filtration of fine droplets and particles less than 10 microns."
