Screening patients has made me realize how few actually know anything about #COVID19. They know cover coughs, wash hands, but rarely anything of how it's actually spread, which events or places are risky... A simple & effective response is to #educate #SouthDakota. @govkristinoem

@SDDOH @RCJournal @argusleader need to do massive campaign on outlets outside of & on local news (because not all watch it) & let people know simple facts and stats that aren't being emphasized. Such as:
1. A Negative test is NOT a ticket to freely socialize without precautions.

2. Estimates by CDC suggest:
*60% of #COVID19 spread is done by those absent of any symptoms!
*35% are pre-symptomatic
*25% asymptomatic

JUST because someone seems OK, doesn't mean they are! #StayHome #MaskUp #SocialDistancing #EveryMaskUp #MasksSaveLives

3. COVID spreads quickly in crowded indoor spaces such as restaurants, bars, gyms, and theaters. These are high risk locations and should be avoided! Find alternatives, order take out, have a Zoom bar or movie night at home w/friends... Be creative!

4. Cases are rising in the US so fast that we will likely see 3000 deaths a day by end of year. That is one 9/11 death toll *per day*!

5. More people in South Dakota are dying from COVID-19 than total number of people who died from the flu in the past 10 years, according to DOH and CDC data.

8. People who are severely ill with COVID might need to stay home longer than 10 days and up to 20 days after symptoms first appeared. Persons who are severely immunocompromised may require testing to determine when they can be around others because they can still be contagious.

9. VENTILATION is key. Both ventilation and masks needed to reduce risk indoors. But most buildings not ventilated well enough. Thus please stay outside. Or OPEN ALL WINDOWS please.
