#storytimethread -As per Sthala Puranam, existence of this temple is due to efforts of Gunaseela Rishi, a disciple of Thalpiya Maharishi.
Thalpiya Maharishi along with his disciple Gunaseela Rishi once went to Himalayas. On his way back, Gunaseela Rishi stayed back at Tirupathi.
He was so wanted to have darshan of Venkatachalapathy in Gunaseelam near his asharam & bless the devotees.
He came back, bathed in the Cauvery, took blessing from his guru &undertook severe penance here in his ashram in Gunaseelam.
Impressed with his tapas, Bhagwan vishnu appeared before him along with Goddess & promised to remain here till end of Kali Yugam. Pleased with the darshan of Prasanna Venkatesa, Gunaseela rishi continued to offer his daily poojas from his ashram here.
At the end of Dwapara Yuga, Gunaseela rishi’s Guru wanted him to go to Naimisaaranyam. Gunaseela Rishi designated his young disciple to continue daily poojas. However, floods in Cauvery& dangerous animals in forest led the disciple to flee the place & poojas came to an abrupt end
Bhagwan decided to hide himself in a pit. After a few centuries, during time of Raja Gnanavarman, cows used to empty milk near an ant hill. A voice was heard saying that milk must be poured to dissolve ant hill.Raja brought his army &1000s of litres of milk to dissolve ant hill.
Once dissolved,Bhagwan appeared before Raja as Prasanna Venkatesa. As per the Raja's wishes,Narayana agreed to stay till Kali yuga &help fulfil all prayers of devotees, who visit this temple.
Raja shifted capital from Uraiyur to Kallur, near Gunaseelam &built the temple here.
Om Namo Narayana🙏

when temple pujari used to bring water for Abishek,he was troubled by a asura named Kanjan. Pujari complained to Shiva Bhagwan about his troubles & on hearing his plea,Shiva instructed Nandhi to kill the demon.Nandhi tore the demon into 8 pieces.
These 8 parts fell in 8different places.Later, in all these places Shiva temples were constructed.
Asura Kanjan pleaded to Shiva for mukti,Shiva blessed by saying that wherever his blood had fallen, a Shiva linga would appear. Even today one can see Shiva lingams on nearby hill.
Did you know what happened to #Hanuman when he went to get Sanjeevani herb
Laxman was hurt after battle with Indrajit, son of Ravana. He was wounded badly &suggested cure was Sanjeevani herb, that grows in Dronagiri hills in Himalayas
Hanuman fly across the ocean n reaches the hills &since he couldn’t identify the specific herb, he uproots the dronagiri hill & brings it back.
He faced many troubles in dronahill, these events are beautifully craved in one of the pillars of Sesharaya mandapa in
Srirangam Temple
Ravana heard from his spies that hanuman has went in search of medicinal herb to save Laxman.
So he sent his uncle Kalanemi to stop Hanuman at any cost. Kalanemi disguises as a Rishi
welcomes hanuman in hills & persuaded Hanuman to have a bath in a pond.
This is Rishi Bhringi depicted with three legs, pointed beard and having a skeleton-like body.
A great devotee of Bhagwan Shiva.

Story of Bhringi Rishi and why he has 3 legs is an intresting one as it explains the importance of
ShivaShakthi & also teaches Shiva and Shakthi are inseparable.
One day Bhringi along with several other Rishis visited Kailash. All the Rishis worshipped both Shiva & Parvati, did pradakshina around them.
But Bhringi Rishi prayed ,did pradakshina and bowing to Bhagwan Shiva, ignoring Goddess Parvati.
