It is a mistake to think that only Islamist movements like the Muslim Brotherhood obsess over morality and “family values.” Everyone in #Egypt does. Nominally secular regimes will often outdo religious conservatives in the “decency” contest. And everyone in between cheers.
The current dictator Sisi greenlit and justified “virginity tests” of female activists less than a month after #Jan25 ousted Mubarak. Sisi was then head of military intelligence. He is now the President and Trump’s “favourite dictator.”
