Grassroots organizers along w/Black and brown voters have done it again in #Georgia 💪🏿💪🏾🎉

The election of @ReverendWarnock & @ossoff to the Senate with pro-immigrant agendas, makes the demands of our communities clear.

#MigrantJustice is a mandate.
FYI: Pres. Trump had no legislative success and was still able to make 400 changes to immigration ‼️

Trump's Admin showed us it can be done. Quickly & effectively.
There's no reason it can't be undone in the same manner.
"At a time when people are dying at the border, of #COVID19 in detention centers, & millions continue to live under the shadows, we have no time to lose. It is imperative that @JoeBiden take bold executive actions on immigration IMMEDIATELY and w/o delay." - @ErikaAndiola
The detention and deportation machine spanning both Democratic & Republican administrations must be dismantled and forms of relief must be expanded.

The Democrats must not compromise on our people’s humanity like they’ve done in the past.
We need concrete executive & congressional actions that...

➡️ Emphasize workers’ rights
➡️ Demilitarize the border
➡️ Rethink the impact and role of the U.S. abroad
All of this to ensure that the 11 million undocumented folks living in this country and those seeking protection at its borders now and in the future, can breathe freely and without fear of persecution.
“We expect that Congress will waste no time in opening a path to permanent residence for the more than 11 million undocumented folks living in this country & legislating to humanize the immigration system into one that welcomes those seeking home & safety." - @ErikaAndiola
The election of @JoeBiden & a Democratic majority in both the House & Senate make it clear:

There is a mandate to undo the laws that criminalize our immigrant community.

#MigrantJustice isn't a talking point for winning elections, it's a priority. And it must be accomplished.

Big FYI to the media (and everyone else)👇🏽

Y’all should know better by now but with the #CoupAttempt we’ve seen far too many of these statements, so here’s an informational thread 🧵 on why this is problematic.
1) The use of this term is not only outdated, but factually incorrect. Much like the use of “underdeveloped” countries.

“Underdevelopment isn’t a stage of development, it’s a consequence,” as Eduardo Galeano writes in his book, The Open Veins of Latin America -> a must read 📖
For 5 centuries European colonizers and U.S. corporations, have plundered the Global South’s abundant natural resources in order to extract & enrich “1st world” foreign interests AND fueling migration north due to economic and social/political violence in the south.

🚨 While the election results have been a respite for many, in its final weeks the Trump Admin is still hell-bent on destroying the U.S. asylum system.

5 dangerous regulatory changes are set to go into effect on Jan 11, 2021.
raicestexas.org/2020/12/16/las…
The changes would, among other things, do the following: 🔽

1⃣Require all asylum apps be filed within 15 days of an asylum seeker’s first court hearing.
2⃣Assess a filing fee for all asylum apps, for the 1st time in U.S. history with no opportunity for a waiver of the fee.
3⃣Place onerous burdens on asylum seekers to ensure their apps are accepted by the immigration court, including permitting outright rejection of applications that do not conform to specific form-filling instructions and providing limited opportunity to remedy errors.

🚨 BREAKING: @AliMayorkas will be the new Secretary of @DHSgov.

Leading this department will be no easy task, but we hope that as the 1st Latinx & someone who has advocated for immigrant rights, he'll change the direction of DHS once and for all.
Mayorkas played a crucial role in the creation of #DACA as the Director of USCIS under the Obama Admin.

We look forward to the immediate expansion of the program AND the dismantling of the detention and deportation machine that was created under Obama and expanded by Trump.
@DHSgov is a department that was built in the wake of 9/11 to protect the U.S. from terrorists — only for it to now be used to terrorize immigrants.

The new Biden admin must recognize this and immediately change course.

Can someone explain who is "very well" taken care of and where these "very clean" detention centers are?

We're confused. 👇🏽 #Debates2020

Our advocacy chief @jacobsoboroff is live now with @jacobsoboroff discussing our new podcast "Homeland Insecurity"

Listen live now: instagram.com/jacobsoboroff/…
@jacobsoboroff "The podcast talks about the truth about DHS. Things are not as simple as they seem. People associate the deterioration of the immigration policy as just Trump, but the Democrats are not free of guilt too. You guys are not shy about talking about that."

If you were shocked by this video, if you shared it, if you learned something from it, even if you're only watching it for the first time now...

🚨 WE NEED YOUR HELP 🚨
ICE is trying to deport 100+ African immigrants TONIGHT.
Sharing these injustices is not enough.

🧵👇🏾
After using torture to force many of them to sign their own deportation orders, ICE is using fake documents to conduct a mass deportation of Black immigrants in the next 24 hours.

Most of them Cameroonian.

freedomforimmigrants.org/news/2020/10/8…
In case you didn't know: The violent conflict that erupted in the northwest & southwest regions of Cameroon in 2016 has killed thousands and displaced more than 679,000 so far.

Returning these folks in mass is a death sentence. Many will be killed by their own gov't upon return.
