Los Angeles situation here is dire. Ambulances circle for hours, unable to find ERs that can accept patients. Hospitals running out of O2. ICU capacity at zero. Patients lie in hallways & tents. National Guard has arrived to manage the flood of bodies. 😢

3) EMS also issued harsh edicts for ambulances 🚑
4) here is what that ambulance rule means... it’s bad.
5) even LA has oxygen crises in hospitals.
6) sobering “crisis standard of care” has begun in LA too.

“A colossal failure at every level of government”

Nearly one year after the first known US #COVID19 case, now 400,000 deaths, we have cases, hospitalizations and deaths at record highs.

➡️ As an epidemiologist who tried to warn, I feel like the Lorax.

As horrific as #COVID19 looks right now, it is almost certainly about to get worse—

“I’m very very concerned that we’ve now gone from a virus that we could control to a virus that we really can’t, unless we do something very dramatic,” said @K_G_Andersen. statnews.com/2021/01/14/mor… Image
2) “They’ve raced through South Africa, the United Kingdom, and, increasingly, elsewhere, and now, new, more infectious variants of the coronavirus have gained toeholds in the United States.
3) “If they take off here — which, with their transmission advantages, they will, unless Americans rapidly put a brake on their spread — it will detonate something of a bomb in the already deep, deep hole the country must dig out of to end the crisis.

SHORTAGES—vaccine supply gaps prompts many to suspend appointments for first-time vaccine seekers & a NY healthcare system to cancel slew of existing ones. “as eligibility increases, you just increase demand, but we’re not able to increase supply” #COVID19

2) In Oregon, Governor Kate Brown said vaccinations for seniors and educators would be delayed, while Vermont Governor Phil Scott said the state would focus exclusively on its over-75 population because of “unpredictable” federal supplies.
3) Besides New York, signs of vaccine supply strains appeared in Vermont, Michigan, South Carolina, New Jersey and Oregon.

Psssst... pass it on:

➡️ COVID LUNG is worse than smoker’s lung.

"Post-COVID lungs look worse than any type of terrible smoker's lung we've ever seen. And they collapse. And they clot off. And the shortness of breath lingers” says Dr @BKendallMD. #COVID19 ImageImage
2) All that white on the X-ray is scarring. You don’t want it. Many have COVID lung even if asymptomatic.

How common is severe chest X-rays?

100% of time if symptomatic

70-80% of time if asymptomatic. #COVID19 Image
3) Many others are highlighting this issue. Look how even longer term #COVID19 survivors’ lungs look compared to healthy. Lots of damage long term, even if not severe illness. Image

TAXI 🚕 & TRANSIT RISK—We know #SARSCoV2 is airborne. But how survivable inside a car?

➡️Well, study now reports a car driven 15 minutes by a mildly infected #COVID19 driver (no cough/fever) left infectious virus inside the car’s air **even 2 hours** after exiting—AC was on too!
2) Windows of the car were up. And unclear if the AC was on outside venting mode or not.

The air sampler was attached to the sun-visor of the passenger seat.
medrxiv.org/content/10.110…
3) to be clear—the virus was captured from the 2 hour old air, transported up to another 30 mins, and virus shown to be cultured — which means able to be grown in the lab, which means it was still infectious.

BREAKING—alt-right insurrectionist who stormed the Capitol **while #COVID19 positive** has been arrested by the FBI near Houston. Tim Gionet aka “Baked Alaska” live streamed for 27 minutes from inside the Capitol & falsely identified himself as media.
2) Gionet faces charges of violent and disorderly conduct on Capitol grounds and knowingly entering a restricted building without lawful authority, according to the U.S. Department of Justice.

3) He told the world his positive COVID results just 2 days prior to him storming the Capitol.

➡️Can we please add public endangerment charge please???
