My dear followers, I know it is the weekend, but I can't help myself and I must comment on #Borrell in Moscow. I'm afraid yesterday we mourned #EuropeanStrategicAutonomy Why? Because how can we agree on a more autonomous #Europe if it fails to defend&protect ALL of its MS? 1/n
As we know, #Russia is conducting a broad, aggressive campaign against the West. It is not only about threatening #NATO and #EasternFlank militarily (how? see here: pism.pl/file/45eda714-… ) 2/n
If this is the case, than EU Member States, which are threatened by Russia actions more than others (though almost all ARE, just some fail to recognize it) reasonably expect from the #EU to help them in facing #Russian threat 4/n
This means, in the first place, to highlight to #Russia that the #Union can see its actions, considers them hostile and will stand united in defence and protection of those of its Member States, who are on the frontline of Russian actions 5/n
If #EU top diplomat @JosepBorrellF@eu_eeas fails to do it during a high-visibility meeting in Moscow, how can you then expect these Member States, who are primary target of #Russian actions to subscribe to concepts of making Europe more autonomous? 6/n
The question arises: autonomous to do what? Business as usual without taking care about building European unity? This will not go and no strategic exercise, no matter how well-designed, like #StrategicCompass can help. It will be waste of time, simply 7/n
The #EuropanStrategicAutonomy can be achieved only if all Member States AND* EU institutions agree that #Russia is a rival and threat to Europe (until current regime is in power) and implement policies to address this threat in synchronization & cooperation with the US/NATO 8/n
