3) Earlier, Germany 🇩🇪 is planning to close the border, and Austria internally debating whether to close the internal border to Tyrol.

5) This is all incredibly worrisome for Austria 🇦🇹 which was highly dependent on the AstraZeneca vaccine. But the AZ is now recognized to not be very effective against #B1351... especially mild or moderate illness. Severe yet unknown. They are now in a world of trouble.
6) Also, there are currently no travel restrictions for people traveling from Austria into the UK 🇬🇧. We have not learned anything. 🤦🏻‍♂️

#B117 is 38-49% more transmissible in Florida, but 40-60% more transmissible according to UK 🇬🇧 data. Image

2) First, masks prevent infected persons from exposing others by blocking exhalation of virus-containing droplets into the air (termed source control)—important because at least 50% or more of transmissions are from presymptomatic & asymptomatic #COVID19 cases.
3) In recent laboratory experiments, multilayer cloth masks were more effective than single-layer masks, blocking as much as 50% to 70% of exhaled small droplets and particles.2,3 In some cases, cloth masks have performed similar to surgical or procedure masks for source control.

I feel like the guy on the right some days. I honestly don’t enjoy any of this #COVID19 tweeting. I do see hope, but to reach the light at the end of the tunnel, we need sobering reality of how to fight for daylight, not dismissive downplaying or hiding our heads like an ostrich. Image
2) We don’t need “sweet little lies” about how it’s just the flu (it’s not), how salvation is natural infection herd immunity (dangerous), or that kids are immune (they aren’t) or that kids don’t transmit the virus (they do, a lot), or that we can have indoor dining (we can’t)
3) I’ve been called “fear monger”, “fear peddler”, “attention seeking charlatan”, or a “Soros paid actor”, or “not an epidemiologist” (Harvard SPH, Dept of Epidemiology 2004-2007), or my favorite- “Dr Feigl-Doom”.

I’ve heard them all. I have zero agenda but to end COVID.
