Here we go... Impeachment Trial Day 2 begins. Let truth be spoken and let justice be done.
Rep Raskin notes that although the events of Jan 6 seemed chaotic, there was in fact a method to the madness, emanating from Trump. And then he notes Trump's delight over the hell that unfolded that day. The Inciter in chief sided with the insurrectionist mob.
Rep. Raskin: "You will see during this trial a man who praised, encouraged, and cultivated violence."

It doesn't get any better for Trump when we are reminded of the disgusting things he said or tweeted on that horrific day. At the beginning of the day, he said the nightmare was coming, and at the end of the day, he said the trauma was to be expected. Inciter in chief, indeed.
Rep Raskin dispenses with the notion that the president was impeached for expressing his first amendment rights. He notes that inciting an attack on government is not protected by the Constitution. Raskin: Trump "committed a major crime against our Constitution and our people."
Joe Neguse on Capitol rioters: "They did it all in plain sight-proudly, openly & loudly. Because they believed, they truly believed, that they were doing this for Trump. They even predicted that he would protect them & for the most part, they were right"
Neguse emphasizes that when Trump told his personal insurrectionist mob to march down Pennsylvania Avenue during his speech on Jan 6, they understood his words, because they had heard it before. The damning record shows how many times he had already programmed his mob to act.
My blood has gone cold again as Rep Neguse reminds us that Trump's insurrectionists wanted to kill Mike Pence & Nancy Pelosi.

It is my view that any senator not voting to convict is complicit with attempted assassination of two of the highest ranking officials in the country.
Rep Castro details Trump's tweets and speeches and addresses in which he claims that the "only way he can lose the election is if it is rigged." He trained and socialized his base to absorb "the big lie."
Rep Swalwell (happy to call him a friend), details how Trump lost by 7 million votes but continued to feed his insurrectionist mob "the big lie," inciting his base with anger. Also notes Trump uses "combat terms," to ensure his base knows they were either with him or against him.
Rep Swalwell nails it: Trump issued Twitter statements to his insurrectionists.

And read by Swalwell calmly and soberly makes it all even more jarring and awful.
Swalwell: Trump assembled a mob in DC. It was deliberate and premeditated.

On Trump's role in the violent insurrectionist mob:
"He was acting as part of the host committee."

Got to take a moment to digest today's events at the trial of Trump, and to express my gratitude to House Democratic managers, all of whom are showing their brilliance and patriotism. (I admit I am particularly proud of my friend, Rep. Swalwell.)
The evidentiary record of Trump undermining the election result & inciting his supporters is so damning, one has to wonder what possible justification Republican senators have for turning a blind eye to the evil perpetrated by Trump and acquitting him.
Rep Madeleine Dean reminds senators that Trump wanted Georgia officials to "find" the votes needed to seize victory in that state.

As a reminder, this case is being criminally investigated in Georgia:
I am no fan of Mike Pence, but Ted Lieu is laying out a horrifying pressure campaign by Trump, trying to force his own VP to be an accomplice to overturning a democratic election result. And in so doing, Trump placed Pence's life at risk. That alone is worthy of conviction.
Rep Dean brings up Giuliani's call for "trial by combat," which Trump cheered on. The more this evidentiary record is built, the more damning it is for Trump.

The awful part is that the majority of Republicans will continue to be human shields for evil.

I was working earlier this am so got into the Inciter-in-chief's defense late. I started watching in time to hear his lawyer whine about "partisan" superior legal experts dismantling his "free speech" argument, claiming they are "threatening his law license." I laughed out loud.
Anyone working on behalf of Trump in his White House, in his administration, and even on his defense team, should be unemployable for aligning with that monster.
So as to this defense, it is interesting that none of the Supreme Court cases that Van Der Veen cited have been about impeachment. The role of the Supreme Court is irrelevant to how impeachment trials are held in the Senate.

House managers are doing an excellent job of showing how clearly Trump was the Inciter-in-chief, with his insurrectionist mob following HIS orders. The record is damning.
Do I feel sorry for any of these insurrectionists who now claim they were "duped" by Trump? No. These are terrible people & they must face justice. However, it is clear that Trump ordered them to go the Capitol.

Republicans are taking a victory lap on the basis of this Covid relief bill & using the opportunity to blame Nancy Pelosi for not helping people sooner. DO NOT let them get away with this misinformation. Speaker Pelosi & Democrats did their job & passed the Heroes Act months ago.
Pelosi & the Democratic House passed the Heroes Act MONTHS ago. We didn't get a bill sooner because of the Republican-led Senate. McConnell in October warned against making a stimulus deal as Pelosi & Mnuchin made progress. See here: washingtonpost.com/us-policy/2020…
And one more thing -- don't let reporters get away with continuing this specious narrative. They know better yet they persist in presenting McConnell as some sort of strategic genius while making Pelosi responsible for his intransigence...& cruelty.

The remarkable part was done by the Democrats. The shameful awful terrible part is that this took this long to happen because of Republicans, and at the end of the day, Americans in need will get a paltry and pathetic $600.
Once again, thank the Democratic Party for all they have done for Americans in need. And never ever say both parties are the same. Only one party is working hard every day for working people.
At the end of the day, there are real life consequences for people.

Late last night mainland time, shortly after sunset Hawaii time, I tweeted this:

I'd like to detail what happened in this thread.
I live in a mixed occupancy community on the ocean. Some locals like me. And some units that get rented out to tourists, which may be owned by part-time mainlanders. The grilling area is community-based and shared. /2
I wanted to go to California for Thanksgiving to see my sisters, brothers in law, & MOST IMPORTANTLY!! my nephews and my niece. But I decided to stay my ass home alone to be pandemic-responsible. /3

A teacher with MS is asking Biden a question about vaccines with regard to his compromised immune system; he says, "I love teaching, but I don't want to die." Biden is clearly moved & answers comprehensively, showing understanding of vaccine development. #BidenTownHall
The contrast between Biden and Trump could not be more clear. Biden's face shows his empathy; his words show his command of the issues. Biden is a man of the people suited to the presidency, the other is a monster.
Biden is responding to a healthcare worked who is making $15 an hour & is economically struggling; he shows really clearly that he understands Main St versus Park Ave. Says $15 an hour is not enough for a living wage. Then segues into the need for mental health. He's so good!
