I was working earlier this am so got into the Inciter-in-chief's defense late. I started watching in time to hear his lawyer whine about "partisan" superior legal experts dismantling his "free speech" argument, claiming they are "threatening his law license." I laughed out loud.
Anyone working on behalf of Trump in his White House, in his administration, and even on his defense team, should be unemployable for aligning with that monster.
So as to this defense, it is interesting that none of the Supreme Court cases that Van Der Veen cited have been about impeachment. The role of the Supreme Court is irrelevant to how impeachment trials are held in the Senate.
Earlier Van Der Veen was whining about "partisan" constitutional experts threatening his livelihood as a lawyer. Rightly it would seem since he is very bad at Constitutional law. Should probably go back to personal injury claims.
This "fight" video by the defense is so bad. I mean, really really bad. It is almost helpful to the House managers since the use of fight by every Democrat shown didn't inspire a murderous mob to attack the Capitol.
Via Nicolle Wallace: House Managers sources are saying
that Schoen LIED about the new evidence: The sources emphasized that "The trial rules required us giving them the videos before we started." They had all the security videos in advance.
Oh Good Lord -- MORE video? I know high school students who could do a better job that this defense team. But of course, we all know the fix is already in and the GQP will vote to acquit. Still, for the historic record -- this is OMG-level bad.
Did this two bit attorney just call the Georgia SoS Ben Roethlisberger? And are we relitigating Georgia? Again?
According to Castor: "The Jan. 6 speech did not cause the riots." In fact, House managers argued that Trump spent MONTHS undermining and lying about the election and ginning up his rubes.
Hallelujah! This defense shit show is finally over. We all know how this will end, with acquittal, but the worst impeachment defense will be in the historic record... as the worst impeachment defense ever.
Collins & Murkowski send a question to the defense: When exactly did the president learn of the breach of the Capitol & what specific actions did he take & when did he take them.
Defense is attacking the managers instead of answering the question with details.
Rosen sends question to House managers referencing anti-Semitic rioters asking if Trump's tolerance for Proud Boys helped to encourage violence on Jan6. Plaskett's robust response details Trump's record of praising violence "months of cultivating a group that was already violent"
Markey reiterates Collins/Murkowski question about when Trump learned of the breach to the House managers. House Manager Superstar, Plaskett, emphasizes Trump's dereliction of duty on that day.
Romney & Collins have a question for both sides about timing of Trump's disparaging tweet about Pence; did he know Pence had been removed from the Senate for the sake of safety.
They are not playing!
As we know from Tuberville, the Senate dunce, YES he knew. Defense claims otherwise.
Casey, Klobuchar, Brown ask if we do not impeach Trump, what message will be sent to future Congresses. Plaskett warns that the world is watching us and our actions will reverberate for the record. And she's right.
Plaskett brings up the defense's use of videos depicting a lot of women of color, a lot of Black women, "fighting" for righteousness, and the embedded racism in those clips. I could not admire her more.
Make the Virgin Islands a state NOW.
Trump lawyer van der Veen says Trump "at no point" knew that Pence was in any danger.
This does not coincide with what we know from Tuberville.
Lord this defense team is very Trumpy.
Cramer asks if there’s ever been a more pro-Israel president than President Trump.
Uhm. Why is it that "some people" conflate anti-Semitism here in the US with support for Likud in Israel?
I'll just leave it there and restrain myself from saying more.
Sanders asks if prosecutors right when they claim Trump was perpetuating a big lie or did Trump actually win the election. Trump defense doesn't answer; says it is irrelevant, then says Dems have contested elections; claims Trump had nothing to do with the attack on the Capitol
Earlier I said Trump's legal team was very Trumpy. I stand by that view. This guy is Trump with a subscription to Legal Zoom. Dumb. Angry. Wacky. And bad at his job.
That being said, I really hope he hires them when he faces criminal prosecution and the jury is not fixed for acquittal.
Time for questions in impeachment trial expire; now remarks by Schumer and McConnell. Schumer moves to award Eugene Goodman the congressional gold medal.
Standing ovation for an American hero.

House managers are doing an excellent job of showing how clearly Trump was the Inciter-in-chief, with his insurrectionist mob following HIS orders. The record is damning.
Do I feel sorry for any of these insurrectionists who now claim they were "duped" by Trump? No. These are terrible people & they must face justice. However, it is clear that Trump ordered them to go the Capitol.
"This attack was done for Donald Trump, at his instructions and to fulfill his wishes" - Rep. Diana DeGette
Here we go... Impeachment Trial Day 2 begins. Let truth be spoken and let justice be done.
Rep Raskin notes that although the events of Jan 6 seemed chaotic, there was in fact a method to the madness, emanating from Trump. And then he notes Trump's delight over the hell that unfolded that day. The Inciter in chief sided with the insurrectionist mob.
Rep. Raskin: "You will see during this trial a man who praised, encouraged, and cultivated violence."
Republicans are taking a victory lap on the basis of this Covid relief bill & using the opportunity to blame Nancy Pelosi for not helping people sooner. DO NOT let them get away with this misinformation. Speaker Pelosi & Democrats did their job & passed the Heroes Act months ago.
Pelosi & the Democratic House passed the Heroes Act MONTHS ago. We didn't get a bill sooner because of the Republican-led Senate. McConnell in October warned against making a stimulus deal as Pelosi & Mnuchin made progress. See here: washingtonpost.com/us-policy/2020…
And one more thing -- don't let reporters get away with continuing this specious narrative. They know better yet they persist in presenting McConnell as some sort of strategic genius while making Pelosi responsible for his intransigence...& cruelty.
The remarkable part was done by the Democrats. The shameful awful terrible part is that this took this long to happen because of Republicans, and at the end of the day, Americans in need will get a paltry and pathetic $600.
Once again, thank the Democratic Party for all they have done for Americans in need. And never ever say both parties are the same. Only one party is working hard every day for working people.
I live in a mixed occupancy community on the ocean. Some locals like me. And some units that get rented out to tourists, which may be owned by part-time mainlanders. The grilling area is community-based and shared. /2
I wanted to go to California for Thanksgiving to see my sisters, brothers in law, & MOST IMPORTANTLY!! my nephews and my niece. But I decided to stay my ass home alone to be pandemic-responsible. /3
A teacher with MS is asking Biden a question about vaccines with regard to his compromised immune system; he says, "I love teaching, but I don't want to die." Biden is clearly moved & answers comprehensively, showing understanding of vaccine development. #BidenTownHall
The contrast between Biden and Trump could not be more clear. Biden's face shows his empathy; his words show his command of the issues. Biden is a man of the people suited to the presidency, the other is a monster.
Biden is responding to a healthcare worked who is making $15 an hour & is economically struggling; he shows really clearly that he understands Main St versus Park Ave. Says $15 an hour is not enough for a living wage. Then segues into the need for mental health. He's so good!
