House managers are doing an excellent job of showing how clearly Trump was the Inciter-in-chief, with his insurrectionist mob following HIS orders. The record is damning.
Do I feel sorry for any of these insurrectionists who now claim they were "duped" by Trump? No. These are terrible people & they must face justice. However, it is clear that Trump ordered them to go the Capitol.
"This attack was done for Donald Trump, at his instructions and to fulfill his wishes" - Rep. Diana DeGette
Rep Raskin is doing an effective job of showing Trump's long record of instigating violence. The kidnapping, siege, and assassination conspiracy in Michigan, targeting Gov Whitmer, presaged what happened at the Capitol. And who was the instigator there ? Trump again.
Rep Lieu notes that there was no remorse from Trump after the attack on the Capitol; instead, there was "defiance." In his view, a defeated president can ignore & undermine the election result, incite an insurrection, & prevent a peaceful transfer of power.
#VoteToConvictTrump
Both Raskin & Lieu are emphasizing that the attack on the Capitol could happen again. Without consequences, all the insurrectionists yet to face justice could conceivably do it again, potentially with more success. Alarm bells should be ringing! Why isn't this a bigger concern?
Rep DeGette reminds everyone that Griffin (of Cowboys for Trump) said "the only good Democrat is a dead Democrat" and Trump retweeted that sentiment. Same Griffin spoke of blood running through the Capitol.

And Republicans will vote to acquit regardless.
The murderous - yes, murderous - intent of the insurrectionists is haunting. And as Rep. Cicilline notes, all because Trump refused to accept the election result. How can Republicans accept this??
Rep Castro is rightfully emphasizing how Trump's incitement of the Capitol attack degrades our reputation internationally, with China, Russia, Iran gloating that America no longer charts the course for democracy & human rights. This is WHY Trump MUST be convicted.
Our standing in the world has been damaged by Trump's incitement of the Capitol attack. A failure to act against him with conviction will further damage our reputation, fueling criticisms from our most dangerous rivals, while weakening our advocacy for democracy & human rights.
I admit I enjoy Rep Neguse dragging the Trump defense team for "not cutting it" and being wrong in their constitutional arguments.
My favorite quote by Voltaire from Rep Raskin:

"Anyone who can make you believe absurdities can make you commit atrocities."

We have lived through that quote coming alive in the last 4 years.
Rep Raskin notes that his managers stayed up night after night to put together this robust record of evidence to present before the Senate. Meanwhile, several GQP senators are not even paying attention. These are US senators behaving like disrespectful children in class. Shameful
Rep Raskin closes the managers' arguments out. This was a superb effort across the board by House managers. I pity Schoen and Castor. I know & you know how this will all end, but the record will show the admirable job done by the Democratic Party and the shame of Trump-GQP.
Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD) ends the case to convict Trump by quoting Thomas Paine: “Tyranny, like Hell, is not easily conquered, but we have this saving consolation: The more difficult the struggle, the more glorious ... our victory.” Via The Recount.

I was working earlier this am so got into the Inciter-in-chief's defense late. I started watching in time to hear his lawyer whine about "partisan" superior legal experts dismantling his "free speech" argument, claiming they are "threatening his law license." I laughed out loud.
Anyone working on behalf of Trump in his White House, in his administration, and even on his defense team, should be unemployable for aligning with that monster.
So as to this defense, it is interesting that none of the Supreme Court cases that Van Der Veen cited have been about impeachment. The role of the Supreme Court is irrelevant to how impeachment trials are held in the Senate.

Here we go... Impeachment Trial Day 2 begins. Let truth be spoken and let justice be done.
Rep Raskin notes that although the events of Jan 6 seemed chaotic, there was in fact a method to the madness, emanating from Trump. And then he notes Trump's delight over the hell that unfolded that day. The Inciter in chief sided with the insurrectionist mob.
Rep. Raskin: "You will see during this trial a man who praised, encouraged, and cultivated violence."

Republicans are taking a victory lap on the basis of this Covid relief bill & using the opportunity to blame Nancy Pelosi for not helping people sooner. DO NOT let them get away with this misinformation. Speaker Pelosi & Democrats did their job & passed the Heroes Act months ago.
Pelosi & the Democratic House passed the Heroes Act MONTHS ago. We didn't get a bill sooner because of the Republican-led Senate. McConnell in October warned against making a stimulus deal as Pelosi & Mnuchin made progress. See here: washingtonpost.com/us-policy/2020…
And one more thing -- don't let reporters get away with continuing this specious narrative. They know better yet they persist in presenting McConnell as some sort of strategic genius while making Pelosi responsible for his intransigence...& cruelty.

The remarkable part was done by the Democrats. The shameful awful terrible part is that this took this long to happen because of Republicans, and at the end of the day, Americans in need will get a paltry and pathetic $600.
Once again, thank the Democratic Party for all they have done for Americans in need. And never ever say both parties are the same. Only one party is working hard every day for working people.
At the end of the day, there are real life consequences for people.

Late last night mainland time, shortly after sunset Hawaii time, I tweeted this:

I'd like to detail what happened in this thread.
I live in a mixed occupancy community on the ocean. Some locals like me. And some units that get rented out to tourists, which may be owned by part-time mainlanders. The grilling area is community-based and shared. /2
I wanted to go to California for Thanksgiving to see my sisters, brothers in law, & MOST IMPORTANTLY!! my nephews and my niece. But I decided to stay my ass home alone to be pandemic-responsible. /3

A teacher with MS is asking Biden a question about vaccines with regard to his compromised immune system; he says, "I love teaching, but I don't want to die." Biden is clearly moved & answers comprehensively, showing understanding of vaccine development. #BidenTownHall
The contrast between Biden and Trump could not be more clear. Biden's face shows his empathy; his words show his command of the issues. Biden is a man of the people suited to the presidency, the other is a monster.
Biden is responding to a healthcare worked who is making $15 an hour & is economically struggling; he shows really clearly that he understands Main St versus Park Ave. Says $15 an hour is not enough for a living wage. Then segues into the need for mental health. He's so good!
