passages.winnipegfreepress.com/passage-detail… - Lawrence Barkwell has wrote a significant portion of the Manitoba Metis History ..
Wow, I don't even know where to start here .. Forgive me Mr Barkwell, this is not about you, it is about the huge issue of Identity Politics and how ugly it gets and people who get drug into it and shamed publicly over it.
U of M Native Studies Dept - Lawrence Barkwell made honorary Metis, I think that is lovely he has contributed years of research to Metis history, however it was Metis history he wrote and made into history as a non-Metis person.
He collaborated with Pemmican Publishing and Manitoba Metis Federation, and Gabriel Dumont Institution.
" Friendly and gregarious, people trusted Lawrie and were willing to share their information and stories with him. The end result is a corpus of work that has greatly expanded our knowledge of Métis history, culture, and families. "
I would like to know, how is this different from Michelle Latimer when she collected stories and information and now people are absolutely fucking outraged over it? Or is it fabricated outrage? You can't have it both ways!!
and Let's keep firmly in mind, Michelle Latimer is Indigenous, she just never made the proper connections to her community which angered people when she claimed it.
"So when an Indigenous person chooses to entrust their stories to an Indigenous writer or director, they do so because they believe that the individual has the lived experience, cultural values and tools to hold these stories as their relatives, with utmost care and respect."
Lawrie was the first and only non-Métis person to receive an honorary Citizenship from the MMF (1991). This honour was bestowed to him in recognition of his contributions to the preservation and promotion of Métis history and culture. He will be remembered as a passionate and
accomplished researcher, author, historian, genealogist, lecturer, and beadwork artist, who assisted countless people. He served the Métis for over 30 years and has left the Nation with many timeless gifts. U of M Native Studies, where is the outrage? A Non-Indigenous man
collecting Indigenous stories, writing and profiting off, making a career of collecting this history of stories and culture. Where is the fucking outrage? A non-Indigenous man, taking up the space that a fully qualified Metis person could have benefited from. No outrage? None?
I didn't think so .. We only have manufactured rage when it suits us. Like when it suits the purposes of Kim TallBear and the Darryl Leroux's and the co-horts who pick up when they are supposed to and man do they show the manufactured rage !!
Keeler after being called out by Metis people on the statements she was making with Kim TallBear, both of who are from the States, who doesn't recognize the Metis as a distinct Indigenous Nation.
theglobeandmail.com/arts/article-m… - Métis Legacy brought together most of the known Métis specialists to produce a rare book that was appreciated by both community people and academics alike. The Gabriel Dumont Institute was a proud partner for both Métis Legacy books, (Lawrence
Barkwell - Honorary Metis by MMF) which were partnerships between the Institute, the Louis Riel Institute, and Pemmican Publications.

You can be sure that never showed up in the second volume and the first volume disappeared offline, lol

Kade Ferris saying Chiac is not an Indigenous language. -- well what if Lawrence Barkwell - honorary Metis says it is?

Le français adultère-ou Les langues mixtes de l’altérité francophone- Paul Wijnands- 2005 - Chiac - that a Metis language was born ie the chiae or chiak.

Ok , Back to Lawrence Barkwell as "he was a passionate bead worker and made and wore his own traditional Métis-style clothes. Lawrie was very adept at Métis traditional arts and taught many others how to make their own clothing or beadwork."
Ok , I am just going off the outrage of Michelle Latimer again here, once again .. I am pretty damn sure, people were proud, happy and loving to Lawrence Barkwell, as a people should be to those who truly try to respect and honor cultures of another. I don't think there was any
of this tone or language, is this a new way of Identity Politics? Bois-Brûlés- The Untold Story of the Métis of Western Québec- By Michel Bouchard, Sébastien Malette, Guillaume Marcotte- UBC Press, May 1, 2020 - Rheal Plourde.

Mi'kmaq leather worker - Nora Plourde.
Volume 16 Issue 4 August 1973 - The Indian News - Rheal Plourde. -- We are going to call people like Mr Plourde , Fetis , Pretendian etc etc cause he is #EasternMetis , but we are going to hold up Lawrence Barkwell, nonIndigenous, Honorary Metis to the highest honor because he
had the good fortune to work in: / seems he would have had some pretty handy connections for the MMF, from his jobs over the years. They don't seem to be doing well with Manitoba Hydro now !! passages.winnipegfreepress.com/passage-detail…
So I guess that was just my long way of saying, what gives? Why do some get a total pass and others get written up in the Globe and Mail and have to sue @CBCNews because of their dishonest dealings with the truth and some native people. nationalpost.com/news/canada/tr…
Apparently only Manitoba Metis Federation gets away with this kind of identity fraud and #raceshifting .. Darryl who gets paid to write supporting documents for the MNC has even coined a term for us, how quaint. However, I am #EasternMetis , I do have Indigenous ancestry, they
can collaborate with whoever they want to try and change contemporary terms as they already are (2002) constantly shifting gateposts now. I am a proud #EasternMetis person, and I will not stand and let this hypocrisy continue to happen silently and I pray as others feel safer, "Changing Metis identity - Lawrie Barkwell - Manitoba M "Métis Politics and Governance in Canada.- By Kelly S
because you see what happened to Michelle Latimer and I could name many many more who have been blamed and shamed publicly by twitter mobs to try and make them leave quietly. But we have always been here and I guarantee we are not going away.

Darryl - saying had to have Metis and NonStatus to receive funding, not a distinct people -- I will let you draw your own conclusions on the map. Sure seems like they had a distinct identity to me. Who else do the homes (therefor families) belong to?

Darryl - saying had to have Metis and nonStatus to receive funding, well Yes Darryl when you have an association that is representing Metis and NonStatus people that makes sense.. Duhhh .. When it says Metis and NonStatus people OF PEI, it sure sounds like a distinct group of
Metis to me. I think what you mean, is they weren't representing MNC Metis, and then you would be correct. They were representing the Metis people who the Native Council of Canada represented, who had a very different definition of Metis than MNC. Well now they do, then in those
years Darryl, those prairie province made up part of the Native Council of Canada. MNC didn't split off to form their own organization until 1983, incorporated in 1985. Up until that point in time, they had the same Metis definition. The Native Council of Canada one. MNC

@CongAboPeoples -- huh ? What is up with only off reserve status and non-status ? What happened to the 2018 mandate in the accord? if you get funding for Metis people, shouldn't you be representing them as well ? Something seems really damn fishy here ..
