You might hate me for saying this, but i have to say this.
For the last few days i've been hiding & running away from the Vairamuthu-DMK event stories. It is troubling me a lot. The whole political environment, Dravidam & Tamil Nationalism, both continue to celebrate Vairamuthu

Even i, when am with my friends, when we have discussion about songs, about poetry, when we discuss Vairamuthu, dont address the #metoo issue. I, the most politically vocal one in my friends lot too consciously make a choice to not address it.
That choice is a very male chauvinistic act on my part. I like Vairamuthu the poet, i respect that man. Something is wrong about that. Metoo hasn't truly changed my perspective about him. I know its wrong. But thats how i feel. I for some odd reason feel guilty,
everytime i choose to not address Vairamuthu's crimes. Everytime i scroll away from that story, everytime i make a conscious choice to not address it, i know that am doing something wrong. The political ideology i support too offers no solution in this matter.
I am afraid that people like me, will normalise this. I am afraid that i am also indirectly contributing to the rape culture. We men, who follow Tamil Nationalism/Dravidam, and we who have made the choice to remain silent about the metoo issue are also part of the problem.
Am sorry. I am clueless about how to respond to this. I feel like am a hypocrite in this matter. Am not looking for a conversation, am just writing what is running in my head. This is more of a confession.
