A strange & probably unhealthy "graduate of Churchill College, Cambridge & former chair of the Cambridge University Conservative Association", who clearly has *no idea* what modern universities are actually like, misleadingly claims "fringe opinions are dominating academic life".
In 2018 Harry Clynch described as "refreshing & real" Jacob Rees-Mogg's "honesty & openness with the electorate".
Since then, JRM has said #Grenfell victims "lacked common sense", called Tory MP's part of the "illuminati", RTd German far-right party AfD, & met with Steve Bannon.
Harry joined SGM-FX in 2020 - an organisation "providing a proactive & cost effective deliverable foreign exchange service" (😳), having worked in the financial services sector In the City of London & Beijing. So he's obviously completely in touch with day to day University life.
In 2017, Harry Clynch wrote an article decrying Corbyn’s "support for terrorist organisations", "the disgusting nature of the anti-Semitism now rife in the modern Left", & Corbyn's tendency to "celebrate, failed socialist regimes".😬
Harry Clynch described the 2017 @UKLabour manifesto as "an absolute disgrace" which promoted "policies which should have been fatally discredited with the fall of the Berlin Wall!" No wonder he finds Universities rife with "fringe opinions are dominating academic life". 🤪
Clynch even had a pop at Theresa May, who - he claims - "went out of her way to explicitly condemn Libertarians as believers in a cult of selfish individualism".
I must have missed that - but if she did say that, she was EXACTLY RIGHT.
Elsewhere Clynch sounds like he's been radicalized at Cambridge Uni, ranting about the "far-left cabal" in the Students Union: "It would be one thing if this was simply a lone nutter... But the truth is that this anti-British, anti-military sentiment has infiltrated the CUSU!" 😳

His book looks at #propaganda as occupying a privileged place in the invention of corporations, their ‘publics’ (target audiences), & the ‘relations of government’ between the two.
His book explores how #propaganda was born, how it works, & how it has masked the bulk of its operations by rebranding itself as public relations. Wimberley uses archival materials & a wide variety of sources to mount a genealogical challenge to two commonplaces about propaganda:
Last year, Britain’s top lawyers wrote to Priti Patel to express their concern after a man with a large knife entered a London law firm & launched a “violent, racist attack” was said to be directly motivated by Patel's irresponsible comments.
Since 2018, Europol, the FBI & MI5 have all said that FAR RIGHT TERROR PLOTS ARE MULTIPLYING FASTER THAN ISLAMIST ONES, yet a #PREVENT review is to be led by grotesque hard-right crank William Shawcross, who describes gay rights & climate change as "PC". theguardian.com/commentisfree/…
Shawcross adores #Murdoch, & has written of a “vast fifth column” of Muslims in Europe who “wish to destroy us”.
PREVENT stats show that in 2020, 30% of people deemed to be at risk of hateful #radicalisation came from Islamic backgrounds, 43% were potential far-right extremists.
17 human rights & community groups say they will boycott the #PREVENT review in protest at the appointment of Shawcross, because "the UK government has no interest in conducting an objective & impartial review of the strategy".
Not just in the UK, but in Spain, Portugal & France, governments & quangos are warning universities & institutions that re-evaluations of colonial history will bring dire consequences – at the exact same time presenting themselves as 'champions of free speech' & academic freedom.
The DoE's proposal for ‘free speech champions’ suggests ‘unacceptable silencing & censorship’ is now widespread on campuses.
It builds on the Govt’s attacks on critical race theory, the ‘dreadful’ (Priti Patel) #BLM protests, as well as the nebulous concept of a ‘woke agenda’.
““It is absurd to any reasonable person to suggest that the words of a minister are somehow less accountable if they are written by them on Twitter than if they appeared in a press release, or were given in an interview.”” theguardian.com/p/ghadc/stw
Hypocrite Badenoch goes on about 'personal responsibility' but despite the NUJ, the Council of Europe’s Safety of Journalists, The Society of Editors & many others all criticising Badenoch's aggressive & intimidating tweets, she's STILL not deleted them. standard.co.uk/insider/kemi-b…
Badenoch made the papers when she was mobilised to spout divisive crap about Critical Race Theory, a legitimate though contested academic discipline. A Govt Minister saying the British state “stands unequivocally against” a particular philosophical approach IS "creepy & bizarre".
The Govt's #Orwellian paper on 'Higher education: free speech & academic freedom' is, imho, one of the most #sinister moves toward a #totalitarian state that Britain has ever experienced, based on an almost total absence of either good sense or evidence.
In section 2: "The case for change - Key aims & principles", the central claim that "There is growing concern within government of a chilling effect on university campuses", is based on pathetically flimsy evidence, taken from opaque free-market think tank, the 'Policy Exchange'.
This, one of just a handful of evidenced claims in the entire document about the so-called 'free speech crisis', is taken from a 2019 report called "Academic freedom in the UK" - which used a sample of just 505 UK university students - about 0.02% of UK students!
