- 1/1, (single editions)
- Multi-editions, (open editions, /10 or /3,000 in some cases, etc)
- Digital + Physical
- Crypto Tokens $B20, $WHALE, etc
- Maybe some I've missed
4/ Single Editions are truly collector pieces, these are the ones that will probably go for super high prices.
The $6.6M piece that sold recently was a 1/1. Bought 3 months ago for $66k, (lol).
I'm scouring the web for good single editions.
5/ Multi editions are an easier entry point for the masses and some can go for CRAZY high numbers, (low mints),
BUT it's also where a TON of speculators and flippers enter. So I'm a little cautious here.
Still, a great way for the masses to participate.
6/ Right after these drops you have people trying to flip.
Then they kind of phase out as new buyer demand buys out the floor.
I try get in near the blue circle after analyzing the event and artist better. AFTER the speculators are on the way out and I know final mint numbers.
7/ So what do I look at in terms of the artist?
- Art, style, I gotta LOVE it
- Personality
- Ability to grow their awareness/socials
- Their collector demographic
- Their minting schedule/frequency
- etc.
This is just me ^ others look for other qualities.
8/ Looking ahead, if this is phase one of a multi-century tradition of collecting digital art than HOLY CRAP we are early.
So I'm just going around buying art that I love and think will have buyer demand.
Some factors that are accelerating these markets,
9/
- People becoming crypto wealthy
- It's fun af
- Social media
- Investment option other than just boring old crypto
- Blockchain makes it easy to transfer assets
- People like to keep their wealth on blockchain
- Speculation/Hype
10/ Future predictions,
- Beeple Christie's auction is going to go NUTS, ($15-$30M), which will bring traditional art collectors to the scene.
- Bitcoin/crypto will 2-3x from here = more buy power
- There will be tops and bottoms but unlike crypto.
Assumptions*
11/ Critical take,
- Market is mostly sustained due to crypto buy power which will diminish in a bear market.
- The lack of utility has collectors eventually selling.
- Speculators driving prices too high.
- Centralized middle parties taking over the scene.
12/ Who knows how this will play out.
But when you're deep in the community collecting, investing, creating, supporting, it definitely feels like it's here for a while.
Considering it's been here for 2-3 years+.
