💡AWESOME FOR BABIES—Experts & new studies suggest pregnant women who recovered from #COVID19 or vaccinated are likely to pass on protective antibodies to fetuses in their womb & to babies via breastfeeding—protects babies both during & after pregnancy.🧵 jpost.com/health-science…
2) “Researchers in Oregon recently analyzed milk samples from a group of six mothers, half of whom received the Moderna vaccine and the other half who received the Pfizer version.
The milk tested negative for antibodies before the mothers were vaccinated, and spiked afterward.”
3) “Breast milk samples were collected pre-vaccination and at 11 additional time-points, with the last sample taken 14 days after the second vaccine dose. No adverse effects were discovered among the babies.”
4) ““We saw this spike [in antibodies] that started to climb at seven days after the first shot, & then it dips down,” Jason Baird, a cancer immunologist at Providence Portland Medical Center, told KGW8 channel. “And then you get your booster, and then you see it take off again.”
5) The number of mothers participating was very limited, Bin-Nun noted, and the study has yet to be peer-reviewed, but so far the data seen, as in other preliminary studies, all point in the same direction.
6) “While further research and data is necessary, Bin-Nun said, it is safe to assume that mothers who recovered or were vaccinated both during pregnancy and while nursing are likely passing antibodies to their children.
7) ““Babies receive anti-bodies during pregnancy through the placenta, as well as during lactation, and there is no reason to believe that this is not true also for COVID,” said Bin-Nun. “There is only what to gain to get vaccinated during pregnancy.”
8) “The recommendation in Israel is that all who are expecting a baby and are in their second or third trimesters should get vaccinated.
9) ““Many women have been vaccinated in Israel, and no adverse effect has been detected,” Bin-Nun said. “In the NICU, we see how horrible the consequences of giving birth to a premature infant because of COVID can be...
10) ...”The alternative of getting vaccinated is very reassuring: this way the baby can receive protection both during pregnancy and after pregnancy.”
11) Contrary to the over-the-counter formula, human milk is a very versatile, adapting product, able to reflect the immune and hormonal status of the mother, she said.
“The more breast milk the baby receives, the higher the amount of antibodies,” said Bin-Nun.
12) She strongly urged all mothers to nurse their children in order to protect them from infections, including COVID-19.
“Our gold standard for the first six months is only breastfeeding,” she concluded.

💡Multi-layered mitigations can substantially reduce the risk of transmission within schools & into households. 🇬🇧 experts recommend set of recommendations in line with CDC & practiced in many countries to reduce the risk in schools / mitigate #COVID19. 🧵 thelancet.com/journals/lance…
2) Here is a list of the expert recommendations for safer schools so that kids can attend schools safer and keep them healthy.
3) “Arguments that schools do not contribute to community transmission & overall risk to children from COVID-19” have had major limitations. Here is why: academic.oup.com/cid/advance-ar…
New preprint on the California variant - 1.427/B.1.429 or 20C/L452R, now >50% of sequenced cases by Jan 29 2021, showed 18.6-24% higher transmissibility vs wild-type circulating strains—slower than #B117 or #P1. Bit lower CP antibody binding.🧵 #COVID19 medrxiv.org/content/10.110…
2) “This variant is characterized by three mutations in the spike protein, including a L452R substitution in the receptor-binding domain.”
3) “Our analyses revealed 2-fold increased B.1.427/B.1.429 viral shedding in vivo and increased L452R pseudovirus infection of cell cultures & lung organoids, albeit decreased relative to pseudoviruses carrying the N501Y found in SARS-CoV-2 variants (B.1.1.7, B.1.351, and P.1).”

Increased mortality for #B117—New study in 🇬🇧 finds 64% higher risk of mortality for #B117 versus previously circulating variants (95% confidence interval 1.32–2.04) in ~55,000 people who tested #COVID19 positive in community. Risks grew after >12 days. 🧵 bmj.com/content/372/bm…
2) In this population, “this represents an increase in deaths from 2.5 to 4.1 per 1000 detected cases.”
3) “The matched cohort design controls for most potential biases, including variations in hospital capacity, as it pairs patients by personal characteristics, geography, and time of testing.” It also adjusted for age.
Engineer Allan J. McDonald, who in 1986 tried to stop the launch of the Challenger space shuttle, citing the effect of the cold on booster rockets, and who, after it broke apart on liftoff, blew the whistle when officials tried to cover, has died at 83. 🙏 nytimes.com/2021/03/09/us/…
2) “During the hearing, Ms. Ride asked Lawrence B. Mulloy, who oversaw the booster rockets for NASA, about rumors of a dissent by Morton Thiokol engineers. Mr. Mulloy conceded that there had been a discussion, but said that the company had ultimately agreed to go ahead....
3) “At that point Mr. McDonald, sitting in the back of the room, stood up. His hands shaking, he told the panel that Mr. Mulloy was not giving them the whole story; the engineers, he said, had been pressured and overruled.
Mr. Rogers immediately asked for the room to be emptied
The pandemic is devastating the world economy—however, good news is US’s Biden stimulus of $1.9 trillion will not only help save US but also help the world. And vaccine rollout is critical.
2) but one major country will likely re-emerge by the end of 2021 back to 2019 GDP growth levels... because of the Biden’s $1.9 trillion stimulus... and if we keep up the pace of vaccinations.
3) Here is the huge impact of the Biden COVID stimulus. The worry is that Euro zone and Japan might fall behind.
