⚠️ICU hospitalization trend and #COVID19 in Brazil.

If you still say nothing is wrong, still try to downplay that the #P1 variant-driven surge is overblown—please go search for your humanity.

The world needs humanitarians who will advocate for saving the people of Brazil.
2) International media is finally catching up on the reporting. It’s horrendous in Brazil. They need intl help. Even young adults are dying more.
3) the rest of the world cannot ignore the crisis in Brazil any longer. Brazil’s hospital system is being completely crushed. It needs international aid, or else #P1 will trigger another pandemic if it proliferates around the world—because it is even more contagious than 🇬🇧#B117.
4) LET THIS SINK IN— It has become so bad, hospitals in Brazil are now running out of critical medicines needed to sedate patients for intubation!!! They are now begging veterinary clinics for sedatives and medicines.

5) even in one of the wealthiest states in Brazil... there is widespread shortages. As result, look how deaths climb along with hospitalizations exponentially.
6) This is today’s shocking Brazil headline: “COLLAPSE” - of their national hospital system. Self explanatory how bad it is now in Brazil 🇧🇷
7) Let this sink in - Brazil is now requesting to triple the number of coffins ⚰️ —the new #P1 driven surge is just that bad. metropoles.com/brasil/covid-a…

B117 variant is now *dominant* in the US. I’m 99% certain that another surge is on the way in April or May. Why? The more contagious #B117 is surging—now crossed the 50% threshold of all cases, in addition to pockets of others variants. 🧵 #COVID19

2) Just Wednesday, #B117 has hit 50% of all cases in the @my_helix database nationwide. It’s been exponentially surging for weeks. Image
3) @ashishkjha is right- “No matter where you live, it is too early to relax restrictions that continue to have a critical role in controlling this pandemic. From CA to ME, FL to Seattle, the #COVID19 winter is not yet done—highly infectious variants are threatening new storms.”

Let this sink in—

A national leader who was a #COVID19 denier who was also dangerously anti-mask, anti-vax, refused to report cases/deaths to the WHO, and pushed unproven therapies, including just praying it away—

...has just died [of likely COVID].

True story. #JohnMagufuli
2) Magufuli was one of Africa's most prominent Covid skeptics. Magufuli dismissed the seriousness of #COVID19 in Tanzania, urging citizens to "pray coronavirus away," believing the "satanic virus can't live in the body of Jesus Christ,"

3) “he claimed his country had eradicated coronavirus "by the grace of God," questioned the safety of foreign Covid-19 vaccines and made no plan to procure any shots for his country, instead pushing for the use of herbal medicine & steam treatments.”

(Sound familiar? Bleach?)

BREAKING—A “bearded white male” who was “belligerent” about not wearing a mask— stabbed a restaurant manager several times after he was asked to wear a mask. The incident occurred at a Jack in the Box in League City, Texas.

This shit gotta stop. #MaskUp

3x risk: ELEMENTARY SCHOOL TEACHERS in BC🇨🇦 are contracting 3x more #COVID19 than secondary schools teachers. Why? "The discrepancy in infection rates underscores importance of mask-wearing in classrooms” ~ Teri Mooring, @bctf president.

➡️Mask kids. 🧵

2) “Elementary schools aren’t subject to any mask mandates for students, unlike our secondary schools. The lack of transparent data about transmission in schools means we can only guess that the lack of masks is leading to more infections among elementary teachers."
3) “The @bctf says 89 per cent of teachers' COVID-19 claims have been approved by WorkSafe, which happens when there is enough evidence to show the person not only has COVID-19, but when their exposure risk in the workplace was higher than normal.L

CDC Says Schools Can Now Space Students 3 Feet Apart, Rather Than 6.

➡️I’m not a fan of 3 feet given airborne—but what I care more is if classrooms are inadequately air refreshed w/ <5 air exchange per hour (ventilation or air disinfection). #COVID19 🧵

2) also— “The new guidelines still call for 6 feet of distance between adults and students, as well as in common areas, such as auditoriums, & when masks are off, such as while eating. 6-foot distancing rule still applies for general public in settings such as grocery stores.”

Sobering for Brazil 🇧🇷—a very high 8 out of 10 #COVID19 patients who were intubated died in Feb-Dec 2020 (world average is 50%). Mortality % did not improve during 2020, which shows “Brazil did not effectively apply the lessons learned on treatment”. 🧵 bbc.com/portuguese/bra…
2) “according to the researchers involved in this study, preliminary data from 2021 show that the Brazilian mortality rate is expected to worsen.
3) “The data on death by intubation in 2021 are not consolidated, but the information available on hospital death points to a significant increase in mortality," Fiocruz researcher Fernando Bozza, head of the Clinical Research Laboratory in Intensive Care Medicine, told BBC News
