3x risk: ELEMENTARY SCHOOL TEACHERS in BC🇨🇦 are contracting 3x more #COVID19 than secondary schools teachers. Why? "The discrepancy in infection rates underscores importance of mask-wearing in classrooms” ~ Teri Mooring, @bctf president.

➡️Mask kids. 🧵

2) “Elementary schools aren’t subject to any mask mandates for students, unlike our secondary schools. The lack of transparent data about transmission in schools means we can only guess that the lack of masks is leading to more infections among elementary teachers."
3) “The @BCTF says 89 per cent of teachers' COVID-19 claims have been approved by WorkSafe, which happens when there is enough evidence to show the person not only has COVID-19, but when their exposure risk in the workplace was higher than normal.L
4) “The public health officer and government seem to be holding firm with their current mask mandates," Mooring said.

TRANSLATION: BC health chief Dr Henry continues to refuse to ask for masks in elementary schools.
5) “So while we continue to advocate for stronger measures, we also need to rely on parents to talk to their children about the importance of wearing a mask for everybody’s safety."
6) “According to the BCTF, the number of claims submitted to WorkSafeBC by public school district employees is "second only to the health-care services sector" in total number of claims filed for occupational COVID-19 infection.
7) The safest way to ensure safe schools is both masks and air ventilation / refresh. Here are the recent CDC air guidance 🧵

10) Even UK epidemiologists are admitted the 3rd wave is “inevitable”.

PAY ATTENTION—There is one crisis we all needs to pay attention to—and that is the unprecedented Brazil 🇧🇷 surge of the #P1 variant, overloaded hospitals, & sharp mortality spike. If more contagious #P1 out of control worldwide, we are all endangered. 🧵

#SOSBrazil #COVID19 ImageImage
2) I cannot overemphasis how serious the crisis in Brazil is. It is virtually impossible to find any ICU bed, and many hospitals running out of sedative medications to perform intubation with—so doctors are intubating without any analgesic meds. Hospitals are in collapse.
3) I’m not exaggerating that hospitals in Brazil are in collapse. This is the headline of a major newspaper. Image

Becoming pretty clear now that dogs & cats can become infected by #B117.

Also, a London hospital had noticed a sharp uptick in the number of dogs and cats with myocarditis: From Dec 2020 to Feb 2021, the incidence jumped from 1.4% to 12.8%. #COVID19 🧵

2) That coincided with a surge of 🇬🇧 #B117 variant. Studying 11 pets: “eight cats and three dogs. None of the animals had a previous history of heart disease, yet all had come down with symptoms ranging from lethargy and loss of appetite to rapid breathing and fainting.”
3) “Lab tests revealed cardiac abnormalities, including irregular heartbeats and fluid in the lungs, all symptoms seen in human cases of COVID-19.”

Spring break partying - Miami South beach. This isn’t going to end well next month. #COVID19
2) Not going to end well at all. Florida #B117 already at 51%.
3) things are going as well as can be expected... #B117 variant surging in South Florida.

Why do we pretend nothing will happen? I didn’t suffer through a doctorate in epidemiology by age 23, just so that @GovRonDeSantis can pretend to govern.

B117 variant is now *dominant* in the US. I’m 99% certain that another surge is on the way in April or May. Why? The more contagious #B117 is surging—now crossed the 50% threshold of all cases, in addition to pockets of others variants. 🧵 #COVID19

2) Just Wednesday, #B117 has hit 50% of all cases in the @my_helix database nationwide. It’s been exponentially surging for weeks. Image
3) @ashishkjha is right- “No matter where you live, it is too early to relax restrictions that continue to have a critical role in controlling this pandemic. From CA to ME, FL to Seattle, the #COVID19 winter is not yet done—highly infectious variants are threatening new storms.”

Let this sink in—

A national leader who was a #COVID19 denier who was also dangerously anti-mask, anti-vax, refused to report cases/deaths to the WHO, and pushed unproven therapies, including just praying it away—

...has just died [of likely COVID].

True story. #JohnMagufuli
2) Magufuli was one of Africa's most prominent Covid skeptics. Magufuli dismissed the seriousness of #COVID19 in Tanzania, urging citizens to "pray coronavirus away," believing the "satanic virus can't live in the body of Jesus Christ,"

3) “he claimed his country had eradicated coronavirus "by the grace of God," questioned the safety of foreign Covid-19 vaccines and made no plan to procure any shots for his country, instead pushing for the use of herbal medicine & steam treatments.”

BREAKING—A “bearded white male” who was “belligerent” about not wearing a mask— stabbed a restaurant manager several times after he was asked to wear a mask. The incident occurred at a Jack in the Box in League City, Texas.

This shit gotta stop. #MaskUp

2) The suspect confronted employees before attacking the restaurant manager. Police believe the suspect tackled the manager, then used a pocketknife to stab the manager three times in the arm and upper torso.
3) In other words—another white male who just “had a bad day and this was just what he did”
