Channel 4 News has obtained shocking CCTV footage of the moment a serving police officer violently assaulted a woman as she walked home alone.

@MinnieStephC4 reports #c4news 7pm
Broadcast for the first time tonight, the footage shows PC Oliver Banfield who was off duty at the time, violently assaulting Emma Homer, in what the court described as “misogynistic” verbal abuse. He was spared jail & ordered to pay £500 in compensation & wear an electronic tag
Tonight West Midlands Police told Channel 4 News PC Banfield has been suspended while allegations into gross misconduct take place. It was revealed that he has continued to work for them since the terrifying attack last year, albeit was ‘removed from public-facing police duties'
The violent assault happened last July, just yards from Emma Homer’s front door in a village in Warwickshire, where she grew up and is now too scared to walk the streets ... as PC Oliver Banfield only lives around the corner.
Channel 4 News can also reveal a series of police failings in the run up to PC Banfield’s arrest showing that they were slow to move in on one of their own officers, and it was only after the victim’s family persevered and CCTV was made available, that they say the police acted.
Emma Homer tells #c4news

“He got me on the floor, round the neck, screaming and shouting aggressively.

I had to investigate myself, I found out there was a police officer called Oli who lived around the corner.

From the moment I reported the attack, I wasn't taken seriously."
Tonight, Deputy Chief Constable Vanessa Jardine, from West Midlands Police, told Channel 4 News:
Warwickshire Police told Channel 4 News:
PC Oliver Banfield’s solicitor said he was “sincerely sorry” for what had happened.

TONIGHT: shocking Channel 4 News report reveals how hundreds of overseas students have become destitute in the UK during lockdown, and turned to food banks in desperation.

One food bank in E London caters exclusively for 1700 international students a week, who queue for hours.
Report by @Anja_Popp, produced by @ShaheenSattar & filmed by @WilwithoneL - reveals international student visas don't give them access to government help and lockdown means there's no part time work available for them to support themselves.
Ben arrived from India to study in UK in March. Shared room with 1 student in Bedfordshire but when Covid hit - moved to house in E London with 14 students. Cramped accommodation means only way they can afford the rent - is by sharing beds - with as many as three other students.
