PD Commander confirms multiple fatalities, including one LEO.
One person of interest in custody.
(3) This is most odd. They are refusing to say how many people died, citing the ongoing investigation. Honestly, how hard can it be to give us a ballpark number?
They've had several hours. Media have been giving numbers but ofc they are unconfirmed.
(4) The DA claims they can't give the number until they have contacted the families.
That is not OK.
Giving us a number isn't going to harm anyone.
(5) This kind of thing fuels online speculation & can harm the families & others affected. It's irresponsible.
The amount of info given would've bn better delivered as a paragraph in a statement. That's literally all they gave us.
In a way, it's worse than the GA cops were.
(6) Just days ago, a GA cop speculated aloud at a briefing as to the suspect's motive and seemed to repeat the suspect's words without running the idea through a working PR filter. It gave the appearance of sympathy with the suspect & utter disregard for the 8 deceased victims.
(7) It would be tempting to think these CO cops overreacted to that and are shutting down even the most basic factual info, 4 hours after the event.
IDK, I prefer to use Occam's and Hanlon's razors to infer that they're just not very good at this.
(8) Second Police briefing:
>Officials confirm 10 people killed
>Heroic fallen Boulder Police Officer was Eric Talley
>The investigation is very complex and will take "no less than 5 days"
(2) I was planning to write about the Asian Spas tragedy now that several days have passed.
Both (partisan) sides exploit (a) these tragedies, and (b) the background socio-political environment of the past 18 months or so.
Some of us are trying to "lower the temperature."
(3) Granted, this incident might turn out to have no connection to national politics. But the choices made when reporting on an incident can turn it into a political football.
All violence is wrong, whoever does it, and whoever is targeted.
(1) Below is the 12/4/16 thread being talked about in 2021. She hasn't yet resigned & will prob end up deleting the tweets so take screenshots. Mine are dated 12/5/16 bc timezones.
Also, her racism appears in many other tweets from recent years. Here's how to find them.
(2) Paste this into the Twitter search field: Asian from:AliMCollins
Replace "Asian" with any other term you want to find, eg AAPI.
It's also a great way to find your own tweets, or anyone else's. I wouldn't be able to find mine without it.
(3) IDC about the San Fran school board or similar bodies. I just like finding examples of rank hypocrisy, dishonesty, and/or bigotry in general, whether it's on the political left or right.
I'm no longer in a political "tribe" such as pro-MAGA, anti-MAGA etc. Long story...
(2) I see this phenomenon all the time, whenever New Zealand has an earthquake, tsunami or volcanic eruption.
Few in the media are trained in the responsible reporting of such disasters. They aim for clicks & ratings with little regard for public safety (anywhere.)
(3) Emergency Management Agencies (EMAs) usually issue media guidance & I've read such materials produced by the USA's FEMA.gov (the largest EMA in the world.) Unfortunately FEMA's website redesign makes it hard to find them now, but I'll add links below later on.
(1) Here's a link to my thread about Trump getting the Covid vax himself in Jan 2021 and trying to keep that a secret so as not to alienate the anti-vaxxer faction within his fanbase.
(2) Biden said "President Harris" and SO WHAT. No one cares. That is, no serious person.
I don't think those who voted for Biden did so bc he's an energetic, inspiring leader for them.
They did it to get rid of Trump. And, after seeing his sore loser routine, I now see why!
(3) I support conservative policies so, from early 2016 to late 2020, Trump represented the best chance of seeing those policies implemented. And if he had behaved like an adult after 11/3/20, the #PostTrumpGOP would have a decent chance of doing well in the midterms and 2024.
This would be funny if it wasn't so close to the truth. Many times in past yr, Trump has shown by his actions, omissions &, sometimes, his actual words, that he is at best indifferent to otherwise preventable deaths.
eg Failing to deploy enough DCNG for the known threat on 1/6.
And for those quibbling about the cause of each death linked to 1/6:
The Trump supporter who was trampled by the crowd as they pushed through a line of USCP in riot gear outside the Capitol is (so far) the clearest case.
That line was the key place where security failed.
Trump apologists disregard whatever you say after quoting 5 deaths "caused by" the rioting. They have swallowed the lie that no rioter "murdered" anyone, esp. Officer Brian Sicknick.
The investigation into his death is ONGOING, folks. Nothing was disproven by anyone so far.
Even when I was a Trump supporter I didn't have much time for this under achieving trust fund kid. Like DJT, Don Jr continues to say and do things that damage the GOP.
(2) Former President Trump has lost the support of many Americans, esp. where LEOs and military are concerned.
He did not have their back on 1/6. He, like all of us, knew that political violence was likely that day, and he did absolutely nothing to try to prevent or reduce it.
(3) Tucker's comments about women in the military were monumentally stupid. Women are allowed to enlist and, as such, their uniforms should fit properly, especially life-saving body armor. Most military personnel are not in combat zones most, let alone all of the time.
