1/ Avon and Somerset Police are currently holding a line with Riot, Mounted and Dog Officers against a small, but very volatile group of #KillTheBill protesters in Bristol.

This follows Police removed a previously peaceful camp from College Green
2/ This #KillTheBill protesters tells a livestream that @ASPolice previously gave permission for protesters to stay on College Green.

He then says they got notification immediately leave and all officers left before 9 vans of riot police & a helicopter arrived.
3/ #KillTheBill Protesters currently sitting in and enjoying @lilyallen's song; Smile.

Police have allowed mainstream cameramen through the line to film Protesters. #Bristol
4/ Officer tells cameraman they're awaiting orders on whether to begin arrests or not for breaching COVID-19 legislation.

Situation now very calm and Police relaxed.
5/ Police issued a warning to protesters at College Green in Bristol - " the crowd will disperse or force may be used."

Don't you have to be under threat to use force? This is a tactic used by Hong Kong Police....

#KillTheBill #BristolProtests
6/ An @ASPolice officer threatened an @NUJofficial accredited Journalist with force despite him showing his UK Press Card.

A Commander later remindef the officer that it’s not advisable to manhandle journalists. #bristol
7/Large number of Riot Police moving in on Park Street, Bristol.

Completely blocked with police vehicles. #killthebill
8/ Park Street, Bristol 20 minutes ago. #KillTheBill
9/ #KillTheBill protestors in Bristol chant:

“Whose streets? Our streets” as stand off with Avon and Somerset Police continues.

Protestors were earlier moved off of College Green despite earlier assurances they could remain.
10/ SHOCKING FOOTAGE of @ASPolice officers beating & kicking a Protester lying on the ground not resisting.

This was taken earlier when Officers removed protesters from College Green. #KillTheBill

@IOPC_Help
11/ Mounted Police have been sent in to disperse the remaining protestors. #BristolProtests #KillTheBill
12/ Regarding my 1st tweet. I used the word "volatile" to describe the protesters.

This was a very poor choice of words. I meant it as they were chanting loudly. I apologize for giving a misleading view. It definitely wasn't my intention. It's clear they remained peaceful.
13/ It appears someone higher up in @ASPolice ordered the Raid on College Green protesters without informing Officers on the ground.

Protesters had been given permission to remain until midnight and were working constructively with liaison team.

Lawrence Fox is taking part on the Anti Lockdown protest in central London.

He said the 1st thing he'd do as Mayor is: "Make protests legal."

Mr Fox clearly doesn't understand what the London Mayor's powers are. 🤦‍♂️

Also, #WearAMask
2/ @MetPoliceEvents are currently escorting anti lockdown protesters through central London.

Suddenly they're not very keen on wrestling people to the ground....
3/ The protest in central London appears to have a very big contingent of COVID deniers and anti maskers.

Piers Corbyn started it claiming it's all a hoax & that the vaccine id going to kill hundreds of thousands. @MetPoliceEvents did NOTHING bar arrest someone filming Corbyn.

When I started on Twitter in 2018, I followed George Galloway - boosted his work. I didn't know much about him bar his anti war stuff.

I stop following a long time ago, but I want to apologize for enabling him.

I try to use my platform responsibly and learn from my mistakes.
2/ We all make mistakes on social media. It's how we address them that is important.

I followed Galloway for too long out of misplaced loyalty & just plain ignorance.

That's not acceptable. It's on me.

All I can do is try to show I'm learning and trying to do better.
3/ Galloway is just one example.

Too many people turn a blind eye to problematic views until it's too late, either out of misplaced loyalty and/or fear of a backlash.

It can be hard to call out people you previously admired or believed in, but it's the right thing to do.

1/ THREAD It's upsetting as a disabled person with a son who has Autism to see @novaramedia media ignoring the backlash from @AaronBastani's interview with Peter Singer

He says disabled babies aren't equal to non disabled kids &
those with learning disabilities can't be raped
2/ I like @novaramedia on some things, which is why it's even more disappointing they've not said anything in response.

Disabled people are often used as a campaign tool, but when we raise concerns, we're ignored.

Singer has a long history if frankly abhorrent ableism. See next
3/ Singer in his 1979 book; Practical Ethics

“Human babies are not born self-aware, or capable of grasping that they exist over time. They are not persons the life of a newborn is of less value than the life of a pig, a dog, or a chimpanzee.”
