Brazil #P1 now invading neighbors: Paraguay Minister of Health “confirms that the Manaus, Brazil variant is already circulating in the country". ICUs in Paraguay are now maxed out—#COVID19 deaths surging.

Let this be a warning—this can all be us.
2) Don’t believe me ICU’s are maxed out? Not only are intensive care beds unavailable anymore, but medical oxygen is now seriously deficient too. All around serious situation.

When I grew up in America as an immigrant child, I felt a lot of pain. The ugliest comments:

2) And of course I got the “do you know Kung fu” question. The even more ignorant ones asked “karate”. It’s harmless at first, but it gets tricky once older because then some playground bully then wants to play tough guy and fight you for sport.
3) I ignored most of it, but it also hurt that we were poor, and they teased me about my awkward clothes that we bought from Goodwill and Salvation Army thrift stores.

Heartbreaking—younger Brazilians are now dying from #COVID19 more than last year–likely due to #P1.

➡️Age 30-59 saw deaths jump from Jan-mid March by 317%, versus 223% for 🇧🇷 overall.

LESS COOL—No data from CDC for 11 states.

NOT COOL—African-American & Hispanic dominated counties lagging behind in vaccinations. 🧵

Let this sink in—

The more contagious #P1 variant from Brazil has now invaded N America—British Columbia🇨🇦 has a sudden cluster of 215+ new #P1 cases sequenced by one Vancouver lab.

#P1 is more contagious, has reinfection risk and possibly more severe.🧵
2) 215 identified by one lab in Vancouver — and not all even included in public reports by BC health Dept yet (they are much slower reporting than CTV news)

BC 🇨🇦 has added 20-30 daily #P1 cases per day for the last 4 days (again not including all the #P1 above)
3) And are these new #P1 cases due to international travel or were they local transmission?

The BC health Dept report few days ago said the initial 84 cases were all community transmission!! Zero international travel. This is a bad sign — so many at once and no travel. Image

Gosh—just one lab has discovered a huge cluster of 215 cases of contagious #P1 variant via screening in Vancouver 🇨🇦... to put in perspective, the entire US 🇺🇸 has only 79 #P1 cases in total.

In other news—🇧🇷 suffered a record 3600+ #COVID19 deaths today.

Why did German Chancellor Angela Merkel warn on camera so strongly that the #B117 variant is “more severe, more infectious, infectious longer” and separately infects kids more than old strain? Because data precisely matching what was predicted. This can be any of us. #COVID19 Image
2) Merkel’s speech on the new #B117 variant: “We basically have a new pandemic. The mutation from 🇬🇧 has taken over—it is clearly more lethal, more contagious and contagious for longer."

Germany 🇩🇪 is taking it seriously. We should too.
