BREAKING : Car smashes into one of US #Capitol entrances, ambulance on site, 2 people carried on stretcher and chopper came in and left.

Developing... video shows car:
UPDATE :
• Car rammed into barricade • 2 Capitol Police injured • Suspect IN CUSTODY • All 3 transported to Hospital

JUST IN: National Guard deployed at #Capitol after Car attack. 3 people in hospital include attacker and 2 Police.

Streets around building blocked, building in lockdown mode. FBI assisting:
NBC: Suspect shot by Police is now Dead
This is much faster deployment of National Guard than the January attack where it took hours. In part because many remain in DC.

Security precautions in place but fence had been taken down recently

Ethiopian PM Abiy Ahmed said last week that Eritrean forces would withdraw, but no sign of that on the ground.

Instead more reports of extrajudicial killings + rape coming from Tigray.

• US has interests w Riyadh: intel sharing, defense
• US reserves to take more action

5- It's filmed in America

Is it because American director name is Lee Isaac Chung?
+ It won @sundancefest the the US Dramatic Grand Jury prize & US Dramatic audience award.

Large anti- Putin Protests across Russia today, this one from #StPetersburg. Police already detained over 1600 people, and using batons + teargas.

Comes ~ a week after Navalny’s detention:

BREAKING: Gen Lloyd Austin nomination (and waiver) for Defense Secretary passes Senate Armed Services Committee. House is voting at 3 on Waiver.

Austin, first African-American in post, could be confirmed as soon as today by Senate.
House grants waiver for Gen. Austin. Expect a Senate confirmation soon.
JUST IN: Gen Austin crosses 60 vote threshold in Senate for Waiver to serve as Defense Secretary. Full confirmation vote soon.

Interesting that among those who rejected waiver were Senators Duckworth, Gillibrand, and Blumenthal.
