Ummm, HOLY SHIT!

“pretty fucked up that eukaryotic and prokaryotic DNA polymerases arent homologous” ~@halvorz

Trying to now ponder—if humans & archaea share DNA polymerase, but not bacteria, then where the hell did bacteria learn their DNA 🧬 copying system?! Like, WTF.
2) More translation— “completely independently” is an eye popping 😳 phrase.
3) I’m trying to digest this... “super fucked up” is how an evolutionary biologist is describing this.
4) This is a deep article. But basically archaea is the most ancient of all organisms that are among the furthest from humans. Yet we still share some DNA 🧬 replication enzyme homology.

But bacteria? Nope!
ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/P…
5) Apparently it’s long been a mystery—one theory is DNA 🧬 polymerase (copying enzyme) evolved independently twice on planet Earth—to do the exact job of copying same molecule DNA.

Like I guess it’s possible—convergent evolution—but quite an assumption.
ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/P…
6) Yeah, “panspermia” is what it’s called in astrobiology. There is a whole field dedicated to this. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Panspermia
7) I won’t say what panspermia theory implies... but it’s basically the other working theory on bacteria...
8) To be clear, panspermia is not a quack science theory. Even NASA has a dedicated webpage to the topic. And Harvard and MIT scientists have explored it.

OUTCOMPETING the faster #B117—despite the contagious 🇬🇧 #B117 variant being >90% of all #COVID19 cases, #P1 🇧🇷 is still surging in underbelly—increasing faster than #B117 in 🇳🇱, displacing wildtype quickly. Same bad signal in BC🇨🇦 too. Need fast action! 🧵
rivm.nl/coronavirus-co… Image
2) In BC 🇨🇦, in just 4 days #P1 variant from Brazil 🇧🇷 has surged 57%, while #B117 only up 17%. Even on an absolute scale, #P1 is also outpacing B117.

Both signals worrisome. #P1 is speculated to be 2-2.5x faster transmission, while #B117 estimated to be 40-60% faster than wild.
3) One Brazil group estimates 2.5x faster transmission (150% increase) for #P1.

VERY WORRIED—Runaway train #P1 variant still uncontrolled in British Columbia 🇨🇦—surging 57% in just 4 days! In contrast, other contagious 🇬🇧variant #B117 only up 17%. #P1 from🇧🇷 is outcompeting #B117 by absolute increase too! BC must act! #bcpoli #COVID19
ctvnews.ca/health/coronav… Image
2) #P1 clearly a crisis in BC. But notice it’s relatively new uptick in Ontario and Alberta too. This is a bad sign. Image
3) it is incumbent on BC Canada 🇨🇦 health leaders (@DrBonnieHenry @adriandix @jjhorgan) to contain #P1 immediately. Or else it endangers not only rest of Canada but also North America and maybe even rest of the world. #P1 is ~2-2.5x more transmissible—the fastest variant to date.

We still don’t know if the 6 CVST clots out of 6.8 million J&J vaccinations in the US are really related. One thing we are more certain? FDA says “no cases of CVST with thrombocytopenia with the Pfizer/BioNTech and Moderna vaccines”. #COVID19 #CovidVaccine

3) Also why did they pause? Here is the rationale. Digest it from the “shark gate” lens if it was found out later and we didn’t do anything before when it was suspicious.

If we spot a shark in the ocean—we don’t know if it’s a:

📌fake shark?
📌just one shark?
📌what kind of shark?
📌how many other sharks are there?

➡️we clear the water first while we investigate for few days. If we don’t, “Shark-gate” coverup & loss of trust will be far worse.🧵
2) And yes I know as an epidemiologist the pandemic is much worse. The overall benefits FAR outweigh the risk. Definitely still vaccinate.

I’m simply explaining the CDC and FDA’s logic today for the brief temporary pause. ImageImageImage
3) Just imagine if the CDC or FDA didn’t pause to investigate— the Shark-gate scandal stories would be infinitely worse and cause some degree of loss of trust of everything FDA has approved or emergency authorized, and fuel vaccine skepticism if the scandal gets out of control.

CDC: Airborne #COVID19 transmission is real. Socially distance too.

Movie theater: Okay! See, look how safe we are!

Epidemiologists & aerosol scientists: 🤦🏻‍♂️ Image
2) How is aerosol different from large droplets? aerosol study indicates that coronavirus is persistent and stable for many hours. Typical air exchange every 20 min to 4 hrs, depending on ventilation. #COVID19
3) VENTILATION is key. Both ventilation and masks needed to reduce risk indoors. But most buildings not ventilated well enough.

CDC's Dr. Anne Schuchat says the risk is "very low" if you were vaccinated more than a month ago.

2) Here is the live teleconference. FDA says it might be a “class effect” of J&J and AstraZeneca both adenovirus vaccines. But unclear.

3) this specific type of clot is “very very rare” that FDA doesn’t even know what the background rate is in the population, says FDA Dr Peter Marks.
