#FromDictatorshipToDemocracy – Chapter 4: Dictatorships have Weaknesses – Introduction

In today's short meditation leading into our study of Chapter 4, we're going to follow just one idea around a bit...

#DictatorsCanBeOverburdened
2) We have just completed Usurper Biden's 1st 100 days. This dictatorship is still very new, at least under his aegis. However, all its powers and infiltration throughout our society is almost ancient at this point. He holds no new powers.
3) What's more, it is critical that we remember we won 2016 handily, and we won a massive reelection landslide in 2020. This forced the dictatorship to expose its own weaknesses as never before. Truth is, this is not a new Biden Dictatorship, it is an old Swamp Dictatorship.
4) Just two points from Teddy Roosevelt will tie down the distant roots of today's tyrant. Roosevelt introduced the principle that where the Constitution limited a President's power to do good, he should operate solely off his moral mandate to serve the people without constraint.
5) Second, Roosevelt placed all focus for progress onto the nation as a whole. Whenever progress required that the power of states or individuals be suppressed, he opted to serve the entire nation, spurning any Constitutional rights of lesser units.
6) In 1901, President McKinley was shot by Leon Frank Czolgosz. He was a socialist and anarchist. Why don't we know his name as well as we know Lee Harvey Oswald? Legally put in place in 1913 with the 16th & 17th Amendments, the Swamp arose to the Oval Office in 1901.
7) These facts are critically important in placing the age and absolute decrepitude of today's Dictatorship of the Swamp. Skipping forward to the 4 Presidents preceding Trump, you see the face of our aging Dictatorship as well as its most fundamental loyalty.
8) And in this image you see the true shape of power in DC. We may place the age of today's current phase of the Swamp as starting in 1989 with the ascension of Bush 41, and the accession to China's best interests over those of America. America Second. China First.
9) While a 32-year Dictatorship would not be particularly old, again, remember, ours dates back to 1901. Our 120-year old Dictatorship is positively tottering. Yet, a simple glance at its power to obstruct and then expel Trump in spite of our vote shows its power still present.
10) Here we arrive at the essence of Sharp's point in this chapter. Any dictatorship may be overburdened. There is one force that NO dictatorship can be designed to address. NO dictatorship can successfully face the MASS application of Political Defiance. Non-violent defiance.
11) It's good to review the fact that violent & illegal protest empowers the dictators. As they control the entire violence-empowered apparatus of the state and have near infinite means to respond to violence with superior force, this is what they want resistors to do.
12) The heart of Chapter 4 is a list of 17 specific weaknesses that dictatorships demonstrate. As we work through this list in coming days, we'll focus on how the use of legal, non-violent Political Defiance can tap these inherent weaknesses.
13) By bent and inclination, I lean toward the national level of Political Defiance. I must fight this leaning, and continue to reframe all my thinking for its local application at the county level. I must move forward with my local sheriffs also, and I will.
14) No dictatorship can be designed to handle legal obstruction at every level of its power. Contemplate that. Here's an example. I lived in Maryland during the days of the introduction and expansion of speed cameras. I believe them to be Constitutionally illegal. I did nothing.
15) What I should have done was instantly research the procedure of passing the evil law. I should have learned its every nuance. And, instead of paying my tickets, I should have found and joined forces with others of like mind and resisted. How?
16) For one thing, I could have found a Constitutional Attorney to represent me against those vile tickets in court, instead of just paying them as I did. For another, we could have organized and raised money to pay for others to do the same.
17) The speed cameras' sole purpose is to raise funds. Our goal should have been to overburden the system to the point where the funds raised were expended and exceeded by our legal obstruction strategies. We should have organized marches and protests also.
18) Oh, I know they always put them in front of schools and such (at least at first) and make the safety case. We should have fought that safety case as a critical component of our defiance. In overburdening a dictatorship, the key is to beat them at their own game.
19) Of course that's just one small example. Sharp's purpose is to show us where these weaknesses exist, and even more so, THAT they exist. This 120-year old dictatorship is vastly more weaker than it may seem right now, I promise you.
20) If there's nothing else that our victories in 2016 & 2020 demonstrate, we know that we have them in a legal contest at the polling booth. They had to resort to new levels of fraud to pull this off. That can be challenged, as can all their weaknesses. And we must do so.
Thread ends at #20.

Can't get to my essay till this afternoon, but you'll want to dig into #FromDictatorshipToDemocracy Chapter 4, Dictatorships have Weaknesses asap if you can! Here are today's study notes.
2) This clip is a PERFECT reflection of EXACTLY what Sharp is teaching us. Do check this out!

3) Then last for now, here's the list of weaknesses Sharp gives us, as I've reduced them to smallest number of terms possible:

1) Cooperation Needed
2) Regime's Past Policies
3) Less Able to Adjust
4) Personnel and Resources NOT Available
5) Subordinates NOT Reporting Accurately

#FromDictatorshipToDemocracy – Concluding Chapter 3

Sharp doesn't say this, but I believe it's right here in these concluding pages. Truth is a social function. We do know this from psychological testing. It's kind of amazing. I'll explain...
2) As I recall from college, psychologists decided to test what it takes to make someone doubt what they know to be true. So the created an experiment where there were 5 or 6 actors and 1 person being tested. We'll call the person be tested by the name X.
3) All the actors in the test were instructed to tell an absolute lie, 100% false, something like 1 + 1 = 3. The group leader would then put up the question:

What does 1 + 1 equal?

Actors 1 - 5 would all confidently and obviously answer 3.

Multiple Media To Engage The Text

I noted this key thought on the 24th, but today is the first time I've posted the image below as I so often do. The thing is, I discovered a new kind of problem to solve which I'll explain more below...
2) Here's the problem. I can't mark up the entire page, yet this page is one of the most powerful in the entire book and its every thought is critical for our mission.

What to do?
3) It hit me - and a good friend of mine has been pushing me in this direction - that reading the page out loud would serve our purposes in this essay very nicely indeed. Some of you may have noticed I just did a bit of testing of that method and it seemed to go well enough.

#BidenIsATyrant

I posted a tiny, little ditty I wrote and recorded yesterday. Here it is again. Plus, a friend of mine asked for verses, so I wrote the following 3 last night. Not ready to record the full song, but the new lyrics follow...
2) First Verse:

I truly love my Mr. Xi
He gives me lots of money
And we both agree on
How much we hate Don
3) Second Verse:

I smell the hair on girls
And I do it round the world
Because you know I can, man
You really know I can, man

When an author breaks his reader!

This is where we left off, yesterday, after just 8 tweets in my thread, on page 33 of From Dictatorship To Democracy by Gene Sharp, book number 4 on my list.
2) There's a small story from yesterday morning I've decided to share today. Re-reading the list from the section: Centers of democratic power, broke me. Not as in completely! But analytically. The reality of Sharp's point was larger than my mind could handle.
3) No, it didn't help that I had a huge coaching day encroaching, but time limits was not the problem. Mind limits was. Two passages from the New Testament exploded in my mind, and exploded my mind itself. There were Luke 14 and John 6.

FDTD – Chapter 3: Whence Comes the Power – Part 3

We won't have time to get today's analysis done in the morning. I hate that, but I will get it done later today. Diving in, we have two of the hardest passages of the New Testament to contemplate.
2) Here's a single verse to capture the horrendous point:

Luke 14: 26

If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple.
3) If I have the time, later today, I'll look up this verse in Strong's Concordance and find the Greek or Aramaic word translated into the term "hate." Turning to the original language always helps. But, simply hearing it in King James English matters, also.
