@AbhayPDeshpande From our favourite supermoon to planets making a special appearance, here is everything the night sky will offer this May:
@AbhayPDeshpande - May 3, 2021

It is the last quarter of the Moon and you can see a half-moon in the Capricorn constellation.

@AbhayPDeshpande - May 5, 2021

The meteor shower Eta Aquariids can be seen near the Aquarius constellation on this night after 2 am till 5:30 am. Being close to the new moon night, the visibility may be good and you can catch 15-20 meteors per hour.

#Space #nightsky
@AbhayPDeshpande - May 11, 2021

The new moon will begin on May 12 at 00:30 am. The Moon will be at a farther distance from Earth, known as the position of Apogee, at 4,06,512 km from our planet.

#Space #nightsky
@AbhayPDeshpande - May 12, 2021

This is the night when Moon and Venus are very close to each other. Venus will be occulted by Moon in the Southern Pacific Ocean of the coast of Chile, where it can be seen from the sea. For India, we will not be able to see the occultation.

#Space #nightsky
@AbhayPDeshpande - May 17, 2021

Mercury is nowadays visible in the evening sky after sunset. It will be seen at a maximum time after sunset on this night, as it is at a farther angular position.

#Space #nightsky
@AbhayPDeshpande - May 23, 2021

Saturn will be in a stationary position and will start its retrograde motion from this day. The retrograde motion is a positional problem. The Earth has an orbit around the Sun of 1 year, whereas Saturn takes 29.5 years to complete one round around the Sun.
@AbhayPDeshpande - May 26, 2021

This will be a full moon night. The Earth’s natural satellite will be at perigee—closest to Earth—at a distance of 3,57,311 km from the planet. Hence, the full moon will be called a Supermoon, thereby marking the second supermoon of the year!

#Space #nightsky
@AbhayPDeshpande - May 29, 2021

Mercury will appear very close to Venus, offering a good chance to see both together in the evening sky.
