If there's a single fact we need Sharp to give us, it is the title of this chapter. Dictatorships have weaknesses. A moment from sci-fi will illustrate.
2) Be it an alien invasion or some creature from beyond like Godzilla, the question is always, does it bleed? If the poor creature can, then its doom is already in the can. Monsters bleed and that means humans can kill them.
3) This is 100% true of all dictatorships. They bleed and they can be taken down. The simple fact that dictatorships DO, in fact, HAVE weaknesses is one of Sharp's greatest points. Tyrants do NOT enjoy the cosmic powers they wish us to believe they do.
4) Dictatorships create a mystique, a myth of absolute power and zero invulnerability. Sharp states the problem directly, and then instantly moves into his correction of this 100% falsehood. We must take great encouragement therefrom.
5) Here's my reduced-terms list of his 17 weaknesses:
1) Cooperation Needed 2) Regime's Past Policies 3) Less Able to Adjust 4) Personnel and Resources NOT Available 5) Subordinates NOT Reporting Accurately
6) List continues:
6) Ideology Erosion 7) Ideology Distraction From Reality 8) Deteriorating Efficiency 9) Internal Conflicts 10) Intellectuals Grow Restless 11) General Public Grow Skeptical 12) Segment Differences Grow Acute 13) Power Hierarchy Instability
7) List concludes:
14) Police or Military Pull Away 15) Time Pressure Mounts 16) Mistakes of Judgment, Policy, Action 17) Erosion of Power & Control
8) We'll look at just a few, randomly.
The first is anything but the most important, maybe it's the least. #10 tells us that the intellectuals supporting the dictator may grow restless. Now how might that happen? Can you picture a university's faculty party?
9) Now imagine that a 100% supportive professor just lost funding for a pet project, for whatever reason. Dictator's ALWAYS purchase their loyalty with advantages. The very moment you remove the advantage, out the window the loyalty goes.
10) Sure, long as the project funding was in place the professor was like to turn a blind eye to infringement of rights. But, what if after the funding disappeared, his parents were actually arrested by the dictator's enforcers? A very different emotion commences.
11) Let's talk about the police. You tell me, how many true patriots are there amongst our police forces in America? And I'll tell you, every single cop out there has a place where love of America, and love of America's freedoms roots deep. That's a huge problem for a dictator.
12) Numbers 2 & 3 are personal favorites of mine. I can already see the Biden dictatorship struggling with past policies, and their inability to adjust. Consider the border. They can't quite just jettison Trump's enhanced security there. They want to, but it's hard.
13) Who remembers the extraordinary TV series, Chernobyl? It demonstrated the far-reaching impact of weakness number 5, the inability of subordinates to report accurately.
14) Look at number 11, a public that grows more and more skeptical. Joe Biden had many 10s of people show up at his drive-in rallies. Trump had countless 10s of thousands. Biden rambles incoherently. Trump nails every presentation. Skepticism out there? You think, maybe?
15) Let's spend a little time on number 1, the cooperation that is needed. Yes, no doubt, our entire federal apparatus has been corrupted over the past 100 years and more. They will certainly cooperate with their evil leader. We can know they will.
16) But what about the entire rest of the nation? If there's a single fact that's most important here, it is this. We won a massive, landslide reelection, and we had it completely stolen from us. Think of the millions upon millions of us who voted for Trump.
17) The Biden usurpation requires, it cannot live without our surrendered cooperation. What if we were to start actually protesting? What if we withdraw our cooperation from this fake presidency? I'll share a single point where I've withdrawn mine.
18) I've come to believe that watching the news on TV is a form of cooperation. The very moment that FOX news announced Arizona for Biden, my family and I stopped watching news. It wasn't our plan. It wasn't even a solid decision. It just happened.
19) It didn't take me long to figure out what I'd decided. I chose, purposefully and consciously, to watch NO show that would refer to Joe Biden as President-Elect. Obviously, I can't watch anything that calls him President, either. Thus, no news.
20) Let's end there for tonight. My ask of you is this. Think through what you do cooperate with, and how you might weaken or completely withdraw your cooperation. When I return on Friday, we'll pick up right there.
Thread ends at #20.
If you have ways of withdrawing your cooperation with our current tyrant and dictator, come share them with us at Telegram!
Let's discuss the scientific method. And we're going to discuss truth. Gene Sharp's work demands this. We must know the truth. Truth is what we cooperate with.
2) Within the scientific method, there is a single most powerful moment. It is the moment we've discovered "proof of case." A vaccine for polio is possible. Heavier than air flight is possible. Birds are heavier than air. Leonardo Da Vinci made that case. The Wrights proved it.
3) A dictatorship can be defeated. It has weaknesses. It has vulnerabilities. How is it, I ask, that YOU comply? How do you allow our current dictatorship its power? How do you help it cover for its weaknesses?
Can't get to my essay till this afternoon, but you'll want to dig into #FromDictatorshipToDemocracy Chapter 4, Dictatorships have Weaknesses asap if you can! Here are today's study notes.
2) This clip is a PERFECT reflection of EXACTLY what Sharp is teaching us. Do check this out!
3) Then last for now, here's the list of weaknesses Sharp gives us, as I've reduced them to smallest number of terms possible:
1) Cooperation Needed 2) Regime's Past Policies 3) Less Able to Adjust 4) Personnel and Resources NOT Available 5) Subordinates NOT Reporting Accurately
2) We have just completed Usurper Biden's 1st 100 days. This dictatorship is still very new, at least under his aegis. However, all its powers and infiltration throughout our society is almost ancient at this point. He holds no new powers.
3) What's more, it is critical that we remember we won 2016 handily, and we won a massive reelection landslide in 2020. This forced the dictatorship to expose its own weaknesses as never before. Truth is, this is not a new Biden Dictatorship, it is an old Swamp Dictatorship.
Sharp doesn't say this, but I believe it's right here in these concluding pages. Truth is a social function. We do know this from psychological testing. It's kind of amazing. I'll explain...
2) As I recall from college, psychologists decided to test what it takes to make someone doubt what they know to be true. So the created an experiment where there were 5 or 6 actors and 1 person being tested. We'll call the person be tested by the name X.
3) All the actors in the test were instructed to tell an absolute lie, 100% false, something like 1 + 1 = 3. The group leader would then put up the question:
What does 1 + 1 equal?
Actors 1 - 5 would all confidently and obviously answer 3.
I noted this key thought on the 24th, but today is the first time I've posted the image below as I so often do. The thing is, I discovered a new kind of problem to solve which I'll explain more below...
2) Here's the problem. I can't mark up the entire page, yet this page is one of the most powerful in the entire book and its every thought is critical for our mission.
What to do?
3) It hit me - and a good friend of mine has been pushing me in this direction - that reading the page out loud would serve our purposes in this essay very nicely indeed. Some of you may have noticed I just did a bit of testing of that method and it seemed to go well enough.
I posted a tiny, little ditty I wrote and recorded yesterday. Here it is again. Plus, a friend of mine asked for verses, so I wrote the following 3 last night. Not ready to record the full song, but the new lyrics follow...
2) First Verse:
I truly love my Mr. Xi
He gives me lots of money
And we both agree on
How much we hate Don
3) Second Verse:
I smell the hair on girls
And I do it round the world
Because you know I can, man
You really know I can, man
