One of the more common aggressions I experienced regularly is white people in Vancouver saying rude things about me/Chinese people pretty much right in front of my face. They "othered" me so much I think they genuinely believed I didn't speak English.

Allies need to step up. If you are a bystander to a hate incident or notice people saying anything discriminatory or scape-goaty, arm yourselves with the facts and speak up because (unfortunately), your word carries more influence than ours.

Yes! There should be emphasis on *global* capital. Asians were a visible minority so became scapegoated when 💸 flowed into Vancouver from many places. There were multiple reasons why the city was primed for this, disadvantaging many locals. BC govt has since tried to address.

Housing is basically the most controversial topic in Vancouver. I haven’t seen it at the same scale elsewhere. Asian-Canadians, where there’s cultural pressure to own homes and adult kids live with parents until they can afford a down payment, got mixed up with “foreign buyers”.
Instead of helping to pay for a wedding, which is the custom in many Western families, my parents helped me with a down payment.
