"THE “once in a generation” phrase parroted by Conservatives in their attempt to block a second independence vote is nothing but a slogan and has no constitutional relevance, one of the architects of the Edinburgh Agreement has said."
"The context of Northern Ireland with the ending of the Troubles then raises an interesting point. Northern Ireland has, under British law, a guarantee that the Secretary of State will consider any fresh referendum on Irish unity 7 years after an initial referendum."
If a similar definition of a 'political' generation were applied to the will of the Scottish people to pursue #ScottishIndependence 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿, 7 years will have lapsed since #indyref 2014, on 18 September 2021.
"In a report published in April, Martin said that the Union had been one of consent up to at least 2014, when the first independence vote was held."
"However, he said that any attempts to block a second vote would fundamentally alter the nature of the Union, making it one based on coercion rather than consent."

This represents a substantive change and one actioned without consultation that might be considered to void Union.
Contract terms are legally binding on all parties that are signatories of these contracts.

The actions of all parties are either judged to be within the terms of the contract or in violation of the terms of the contract, rendering it null and void.
Actions of all parties within the terms of any contract are subject to the relevant laws applicable at that time.

Retrospective changes in law with the sole purpose of altering the terms of a contract with intent to render legal actions illegal cannot be permissable?
Yet, UK Government demonstrates disregard for domestic and international laws and treaties.

Is it permissable for UK Government to change the law to exempt itself from scrutiny, accountability and consequences for law breaking?
Conduct of UK Government and evidence of innumerable examples of law breaking can be regarded as an 'unreliable partner' in any contracts, agreements and treaties.

EU have found themselves to be the victim of the illegal actions perpetrated by UK Government.
"The constitutional expert also hit out at the Scottish Conservatives who had been speaking on the show saying that they did not wish to see a second independence vote and that there would not be one."
Consent within the terms of the Acts of Union 1707 and subsequent devolution agreements cannot be withheld on the grounds that outcomes resulting from that consent may or may not suit the agenda of the party giving consent, i.e. UK Government.

Democracy vs Dictatorship
*My comment is a question not a statement of fact.
p.s. The refusal of UK Government to give consent to #indyref2 is not limited to the referendum but seeks to deny the democratic rights of ALL citizens of Scotland to choose to exercise self-determination and self-governance.

What of Democracy & Human Rights re: discrimination?

@LeRef5 @agcolehamilton If your comment refers to @scotgov then you had better provide evidence to support your claims.

If, your comment is based upon partisan tactics from opposition parties to smear the incumbent @scotgov then you have no evidence since their goals are entirely party political.
@scotgov "We are reminded also that the UK has changed significantly during its history. It is also a union which evolves and is CONTINUING TO EVOLVE, as the introduction of devolution in 1999 for Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales demonstrated."
@scotgov "The Scottish Independence Referendum represents the latest stage in the evolving story of the political and
constitutional shape of the UK."

"Curtice said: “The thing that clearly comes out of this forecast is we are talking about a situation where roughly half of Scotland has voted for a pro-independence party and roughly half has voted for a pro-Unionist party, ..."
"...so this election has very clearly underlined the sharp division, even division, between Unionism and support for independence in Scotland.”
"He said that, unless the polls shift, this means that a second independence referendum would be a huge gamble for either side and that no-one can know how Scotland would vote."

@glasgowcathcart @stevelonie @Dorokusai_tweet @indywolf72 I agree with you!

There are far too many current references in that bigoted attempt to distort the truth - Scotland, like all other nations but for the existence of tin-pot dictators worldwide and in Westminster, has the right of self-determination.
@glasgowcathcart @stevelonie @Dorokusai_tweet @indywolf72 Furthermore, the author deliberately incorrectly apportions the blame for the political game playing by the #Tories onto @SNP.

@NicolaSturgeon acknowledges there are things that could have been done differently and maybe better and commits to doing better if given the chance.
@glasgowcathcart @stevelonie @Dorokusai_tweet @indywolf72 @snp @NicolaSturgeon Opposition parties in Holyrood are wholly responsible for limiting the achievements of @scotgov with their partisan politicking and need to promote themselves continually because they want to be @ScotGovFM and @scotgov !!

@Jacqui_C_ @Channel4News Heavy #Tory bias in media prevents people from forming their own opinions on events 'reported' and I use the term 'reported' very loosely given the extent of 'brainwashing' from some media owners that act to serve their own interests.

Truth is distorted for personal gain. 🤑
@Jacqui_C_ @Channel4News @Keir_Starmer faces an uphill battle to address media bias that prevents his message from even being heard by voters.

COVID pandemic restrictions have limited opportunities for face-to-face campaigning that could circumvent media bias although the wall of bias is constant.
@Jacqui_C_ @Channel4News @Keir_Starmer “People don’t really know what we stand for, so we’re having to fall back on the time-honoured tradition of anti-Tory sentiment,” complained another MP.

This plays into hands of corrupt and biased media since this comes across as criticism of #LiarJohnson and therefore negative.

@STVNews "He also argued that Scotland was a “stronger nation” because it was part of the United Kingdom."

I do wish they, being the corrupt cabal misrepresenting UK Government, would make up their minds!!
@STVNews The financial status of Scotland is frequently misrepresented in GERS but only serves to illustrate the case for #ScottishIndependence 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿.

Scotland would evidently be much better off OUT of the failed union that was once the UK!
