Let’s be clear, the Liberals are using their eighth Budget to fake they care about Australian women when they’ve ignored them in the last seven. A thread.

#Budget21
Much of the funding is simply the continuation of existing programs and services. The Government doesn’t deserve a pat on the back for stopping its own cuts.
Since 2013, the Liberals have cut women’s pay and working conditions. They’ve cut family benefits, child care, schools and Medicare. And they’ve tried to make women in crisis drain their own superannuation accounts to be able to escape a violent relationship.
Since coming to office, the Liberals have spent about as much on government advertising as they have helping to stop family violence.

#auspol
Australia has slipped 26 places in the World Economic Forum’s gender ranking since the Liberals came to office. We are now in 50th place worldwide – the worst result ever.
The Liberals are all talk, no action. This Budget is no different.

The Liberals have spent seven years creating a tradie crisis in Australia – with $3 billion cut from TAFE and training, widespread skills shortages, and 140,000 apprentices and trainees gone.
After he’s created such a mess, what’s Scott Morrison’s solution? A phony announcement with no extra funding, no timeframe, and basically no detail.

smh.com.au/politics/feder…
If the Government proposes some sensible changes to the training system, Labor will support them. But Scott Morrison’s announcement today is no solution to the tradie crisis he created.

Like many of you, I’ve been reflecting on the changes COVID-19 is making to our society, our economy and our way of life.

Up until now, everything has happened so quickly. We haven’t had much time to sit back and think about our experiences as a nation.
But with the scale of Australia’s challenges, both to our health and our economy, it’s unlikely that society will just ‘snap back’ to how it was before. Some things will change forever.

So what have we learned so far in this crisis?
1. Australians are prepared to make sacrifices for one another if we feel like we are all in something together. We tell ourselves that we are larrikin rule breakers, but very few have ignored social distancing rules.

Could this be another Liberal rort? A thread. #estimates
In estimates Labor just asked the Libs about their $50 million industry hubs program, designed to improve opportunities in areas of high youth unemployment.

The Libs announced the location of the 10 industry training hubs after the election was called.
6 locations were in Coalition held seats. 3 were in marginal Labor seats, 2 of which were won by the Coalition at the last election.

The Minister Michaelia Cash admitted she signed off on the locations.

But she wouldn’t answer when (was it during the caretaker period?)

Patriotism, like mateship, is about solidarity. It’s about what we owe each other as citizens.
Patriotism is the knowledge that we’re not alone in this life; that our neighbours are there to share our struggles; that we have 25 million people in our corner when we need it.
To love your country is not to assume it’s better than others. Patriots don’t need to feel superior to feel proud.

A reminder about Scott Morrison’s record. A thread:
Under Scott Morrison as Treasurer, the deficit has doubled.
Gross debt has crashed through the half a trillion mark – for the first time in Australia’s history.
