Normally I don't tweet so much local #VasaiVirar news, but now that I've whined about our horrendous power supply, might as well go on about the horrendous #Covid19 situation for a bit too.

To begin with, little public awareness on masking. 1/n
We are allegedly under lockdown, but this is a common sight. The lockdown basically counts on obedient shopkeepers cooperating.

The perception is that we don't have a lot of cases in our area, so the lockdown is just a formality 2/n
But are the number of cases in #VasaiVirar really as low as claimed?

A 55% positivity rate would imply otherwise. It sounds like we don't test unless we are reasonably certain it will be positive. indianexpress.com/article/cities…
The vaccination situation is dismal as well. This is the vaccination center near our home - you can see my building in the background on the right (though photo is from article). There are often more people than this waiting for vaccines that aren't there. mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-…
I have EXHAUSTED myself telling people to forget about vaccination and stay home masked and isolated and safe till situation improves.

Public figures doing a relentless barrage and scaremongering to push people at non-existent vaccines doesn't help and probably creates spreaders
And of course, the occasional oxygen shortages and hospital fires and such deccanherald.com/national/west/…

VVCMC is a relatively new municipality and there isn't much robust infrastructure/systems. But also unclear how much intention to create.
Anyway, this is a look at a smaller town. We are used to news from Metros where things work as they are supposed to, and nagging people to go vaccinate sounds like a virtue because non-crowded vaccination centers available. Most of the country isn't metros, even if most news is.

"Instead of criticizing, why don't you say what vaccine solution is?"

And here I thought I was saying for days. Listen up again.

1. Ramp up procurement and number of vaccines administered to max possible, fastest possible.

2. Dump Cowin
3. Do public information messages asking people to stay home and isolated. Stop vaccination for broad population requiring queues and crowds till massive availability. Appointments stuff is fine for elite.

4. Finish vaccination of doctors FIRST before dancing about others.
5. Once doctors are vaccinated, ensure vaccination of all medical and medicine adjacent staff - hospital staff, ambulance operators, medical store owners, cafeteria/hotel staff near covid hospitals...

6. Go profession by profession from there.

Even with conservative use of power, no idea how long inverter can last. Working so far with no fan use and minimum lights use since last night. Laptop charged, phone charged. Laptop can charge phone if inverter gives out. Peak inefficiency #CycloneTauktae #VasaiVirar #Nalasopara
Would MAHADISCOM accept outages in paying the electricity bill? What is their excuse for routine power outages in an urban area in the year 2021?

Every person in Vasai-Virar is fed up of electricity woes. Now people going through pandemic + cyclone without electricity.
This can't be blamed on #CycloneTauktae because we have power outages all the time.

Peak summer, peak pandemic, unprecedented cyclone and power outages. Food spoiling, kids scared, phones running out of charge, people can't access emergency instructions because no power, no TV!

Last year #CycloneNisarga - first in a century.

This year #CycloneTauktae - hopefully will dissipate soon as climate not traditionally favorable for cyclones here

BUT

Send all the climate change deniers here to get the cobwebs in their brains blown off.
Two years ago, whoever had heard of cyclones in Konkan-Mumbai? Now two years back to back.

Ghanta climate hasn't changed. We aren't even supposed to buy umbrellas till June first week.
Am I the only Konkan/Mumbaikar awake? Isn't getting a cyclone in May super weird?

We are supposed to swelter and cook till June. Not get super windy, rainy cyclones.

All you bhakts and pseudo followers of Hindu faith, your Mahabharata describes the rulers in Kaliyuga as corrupt and causing death and destruction and obsessed with power. You're busy worshipping such rulers. This isn't "dharma", it is karma you're setting up for yourself.
More Hindus have suffered at the hands of this mad king than ever before and YOU are the ones propping up this atrocity in the name of dharma. Go read the fucking Mahabharata and Gita for what you should actually think about him, instead of Hindutva propaganda.

Why are you making only anti-BJP spaces? Why not allow a real debate?

Because for me that debate is over long ago. BJP is crap. A pro/con debate would be like "is it good to eat poop or not, discuss" a very short discussion. Nope. Let's discuss sewage disposal. :)
"But you should at least allow BJP supporters to speak?"

Nah.
"But how can you decide without hearing us out?"

Easily.

I get mindfucked by the #covid19 statistics, every time I think of them.

Before the pandemic, our idea of a national tragedy was 40 people dying in train accidents. A hundred times that are dying on a daily basis. And this is UNDERreporting.

Where is our outrage on mishandling?
How is it that politics is able to go on as usual with bhakts defending, opponents and dissenters criticizing and everything as normal?

We are paying for absolute crap handling of first wave, unpreparedness for second wave with LIVES LOST on a daily basis.
Tamashas like thali bajao, unchecked migrant labour fleeing to villages taking infections along, the dead among them in trying to reach villages walking insane distances and dying in the process.

We have FORGOTTEN the first wave and how govt let it spread and kill.
