I recently took a trip to see family.

The first night my nephew (11) says to me,
“Uncle Ty how do you get strong looking!”

I told him I’ll teach you,
set your alarm for 630 & come with me tomorrow!

This is my experience & takeaways from the next few days with him!

6:30 thats too early he told me :)

There’s always a cost my man I told him back!

-Sleep is easier.
-Staying up late to play video games is easier.

That’s why most people aren’t strong looking!!! 💪

So decide now, do you want easy or do you want this?

THIS he said!!
That next morning we went to a local park.

We warmed up & I asked him WHY he wanted to get strong & change his body?

-Girls & confidence!
(We’ve all been pre-teen!)

Remember that WHY when your mind tells you you’re tired I told him.

Let’s begin. 💪
We did a 40 minute circuit.
-sprints
-lunges
-step ups
-jump rope
-push-ups
-incline push-ups
-burpees
And others.

Many times he said I’m too tired I can’t & many times I told him you aren’t tired & if you tell yourself you aren’t, you won’t be!

Each time he pushed thru!!
After that first day he told me this is the best I’ve ever felt!

I’ve never done anything like this before!
I have so much energy! 🐉🔥

Energy creates energy!!!

If you play video games & sit all day you won’t have energy.

An object in motion tends to stay in motion!
Move!!!
The second day he wasn’t as excited :)

I’m sore uncle Ty should I skip today?

Good! You should be!
No, Let’s go again!
This is how you get stronger!

This time I had no shirt & no shoes on as we were walking out the door :)

Uncle Ty, aren’t you going to wear shoes or a shirt?
I could tell he was embarrassed.

No man, I train like this mostly.

What if other people see us tho?Won’t they think we are weird?

That seems like a them problem my man!

You see,
I find 0 worth in what others think of me.
I only care what I think of me & what God thinks of me!
We chatted about how coworkers thought I was weird doing
push-ups on break, walking at lunch & not eating junk food!

None of them were strong looking, I am!

They thought I was weird working every night on side hustles.

All of them still work at that office,
I don’t!
To win my man you gotta be a little different & you need to embrace that!

If you seek their approval, you become a slave to their applause.

Society tells you to fit in,
do the exact opposite & live bold & stand out!!

I kinda get it, so you’re not wearing shoes then huh?
We trained again & he pushed hard & got after it!

This time I saw a lot of emotion!
-Beating his chest!
-I’m not tired he would yell!

On the walk home we talked more about how I won’t be here & this has to be his goal now!

Consistency is everything.
Most days you won’t feel like doing it,
Do it anyway!!

Ok uncle Ty he said :)
Bro hug & all!

I have no idea if he’ll continue to push everyday & get ripped now!

I know I planted a seed & I know he’ll always recall how good that felt to push himself & conquer his mind!!
Takeaways:
1) Leading isn’t with words. It’s by our actions.
Talk means nothing, live it & people will come to you & that’ll open opportunities to help others.
2) Kids are the best.
They teach us about life. Willingness to learn & try new things. Adults get stuck in their ways.👇
If you are given an opportunity to learn & grow, take it!! I was given one the next day training with @KellyFlynnnn an awesome trainer that tweaked my form a bit & helped me tremendously! 🙏💪
3) Be authentic!
People may not say it, but they are watching. Live bold! Be you!
A few years ago I would’ve adapted to what everyone else was doing. I wouldn’t have trained on vacation or made waves.
I would’ve fit in.
Forget that. Be you!
I love training.
I love eating real, healthy food & feeling good! I’m not gonna change that for anyone!
4) Plant seeds 🌱
I see so many parallels to faith & fitness. I often joke I find God in the gym more than I do church.

Whether it’s fitness & health or personal faith, don’t go in preaching!! Live it & when you are given a chance then share!
5) Feelings lie, know your WHY!! How sick would that tweet be on its own :)

I’m not motivated to train most days.
I do it anyway because I know WHY & that I always feel better after!
If it’s important to you,
you’ll find a way!
It’s the same with anything in life!
6) No one thinks about you as much you think they do :)
Quit letting the opinions of others dictate what you do!!

It’s your journey not theirs, they don’t need to understand it.
You just need a clear vision of it!!

I was riddled with anxiety & on meds.
This is just who I am I lied to myself.

I see so many today like I was.
A prisoner in their own minds.

-can’t sleep
-negative thoughts control them.
Then I started:

-Hard, physical activity!
Push yourself physically & you’ll grow mentally!

-Daily gratitude.
I write things I’m grateful for each day. (1,065 straight days!)
This one habit has programmed my brain to see the good!

-Walks outside.
Get in nature & off screens!

A few years ago we were in a terrible marriage.

Our house wasn’t a home, it was a war zone.
We didn’t speak days at a time.

-We said the D word
-All we have almost wasn’t
-My kids could’ve not had a dad around

Last night my wife said,
This is better than our honeymoon!

1) Prioritize your family above all else.

This means making a CHOICE to
-work less
-watch less TV
-set boundaries with friends

Men, fill yourself up first.
I wake at 5am to:
-train
-journal
-pray for my family

Then,
I am ready to pour into them!
It starts with you men!!

Trying to lose Weight?
Trying to stop that bad habit?

What you need to do is stop trying!!

Trying implies you’ll put effort in until you meet resistance & then you’ll reassess it.

What you really need to do is

I’m talking about the real level of commitment.

You’re going to stay disciplined long after motivation wears off because you believe so deeply in your WHY to do it!!

-Blamed everyone but myself
-In a bad marriage
-Depressed
-On anxiety meds

Then I got on my knees one night & wrote out who I was going to become & WHY I was going to become that man!!!

The best place I learned about life was at a nursing home.

My wife asked me to volunteer a few years ago & I reluctantly accepted :)

I’ll admit, I dreaded it at first.

But like everything in life,
what you put in you get out.

The experience ended up changing my life!

We started going 1 Sunday a month.

I even got to preach a Bible lesson & our family would then serve communion.

After a couple Sundays we started staying after to chat & hangout.

We met war heroes, widows, business owners, & some of the most interesting people there!
It’s amazing what talking & building a relationship with people in their last season of life will do.

So many spoke about regrets.
They spoke about priorities & what truly mattered in life.

I learned quickly not one regretted failing.
The only regrets were not taking chances!

I know someone reading this is thinking
Monday, the week is just starting & I feel tired, worn down & not my best.

I would like to offer a word of encouragement & quick story about how one man not zoning out on a Monday changed my entire life.

I met him at the lowest point in my life:
- recently divorced & cheated on
- depressed & riddled with anxiety
- drinking uncontrollably
-149 pounds no muscle & less confidence
-suicidal thoughts :(
One Monday a friend who was concerned asked me to lunch.

I went & there was introduced to Kolby.
He was a personal trainer & full of life!
This dude talked to everyone, encouraged & thanked waiters & staff!
Complimented strangers!!

He seemed so happy to be alive!
