@Google@ArunEFI@MrigDixit@EFIVolunteer Over the past few decades, many people and organisations have been striving to revive and restore the lost ecosystems across India. Today, we highlight the incredible work of one such organisation—the Environmentalist Foundation of India (EFI).
🌍 What motivated you to take up environmental conservation?
I was fascinated by water bodies’ culture and a civilisation that has a different story to tell and I consider them as a magical element of the environment.
@EFIVolunteer@ArunEFI 🌍 Once you decided to champion the environmental cause, what was the most daunting challenge that you faced?
One man or organisation can not resolve the current environmental crisis. A dynamic setup such as India requires a bit more effort in coagulating such a striking force.
EFI is a humble effort—a social platform for nature enthusiasts who wish to be that someone for India’s environment. We have always wanted to be that catalyst to trigger that favourable reaction towards our planet.
@EFIVolunteer@ArunEFI 🌍 You, along with EFI, have done significant work towards the restoration of lakes. Why lakes and how do you go about it?
We would continue to face water shortage and also be victims of urban flooding. Loss of biodiversity is all part of declining lake systems.
🌍 With time, do you feel the awareness about environmental issues is gaining momentum? How can we accelerate it?
We should participate in volunteering efforts in our neighbourhood lakes & ponds to maintain them. This should be under the supervision of people with the know-how.
🌍 On the occasion of World Environment Day, what is your message to our readers?
The planet needs no saving, it’s the human race that needs to wake up to the real-time threat of #climatechange and volunteer towards combating the same.
@MrigDixit For centuries, winds have played a crucial role in almost all voyages navigating long distances through rough seas. One such seasonal wind that sailors historically used to reach India was the #Monsoon.
@MrigDixit As it implies from its likely origin from the Arabic word Mawsim, the monsoon is nothing but a periodic seasonal wind. It is the dominant feature of India’s climate, which brings around 80% of the total precipitation across the country.
Following the delayed onset of the southwest monsoon season over Kerala, the first monsoon showers are expected to reach Karnataka slightly later than usual—commencing by the start of next week.
Yet, it’s not a cause of concern, as the overall rainfall is expected to remain above normal across the state this year.
Have the giant leaps made by space agencies in technological advancement gotten you dreaming of wearing a spacesuit and flying off to space? Well then get in line, as #NASA is currently preparing to launch the most unexpected of creatures to space instead!
As part of #SpaceX’s cargo resupply mission, the American space agency will be sending 5,000 tardigrades and 128 glow-in-the-dark baby squids to the International Space Station (ISS) next week.
The phrase ‘when in Rome, do as the Romans do’ may have been created by humans, but it’s the monkeys who are actually out there talking the talk—quite literally.
In a new study, researchers have observed a particular species of monkeys using the ‘accent’ of another species upon entering their territory, so as to avoid any potential conflict and facilitate better understanding among each other.
It has been a few days since the colour of the #GangaRiver in #Varanasi turned green. The change in the colour of the water has become a major cause of concern for the local people—more so, because, in the same period last year, the Ganga water had become sparkling clean.
According to Dr B.D. Tripathi, the chairman of Malviya Ganga Research Centre at Banaras Hindu University , the greenish appearance of the river could be due to microcystis algae.
