[Thread] 1. #CyrilRamaphosa: Restrictions are effective in bringing down #COVID infections. But although we have reason to hope, we still have a mountain to climb.

2. #CyrilRamaphosa: A third wave of infections are upon us. Since my last family meeting (2 weeks ago), the average nr of new infections has doubled from 3 700 daily infections to over 7500. Deaths have increased by 48% from 535 to 791 in the past 7 days.

3. #CyrilRamaphosa: Gauteng is particularly bad. The increase in #COVID infections in Gauteng is now worse than they were in previous waves at the same stage of the wave.

4. #CyrilRamaphosa: It is through our behaviour that #COVID19 spreads. You could get infected in a taxi without open windows, or a co-worker that doesn’t wear a mask that covers both their mouth and nose. You could get infected by a family member you share utensils with.

5. #CyrilRamaphosa: When you know you’ve been exposed to a person with #COVID you must quarantine for 10 days, even though it might be inconvenient. We must more diligent and aware of our actions - that way we can bring down the rate of transmission. That has been proven.

6. #CyrilRamaphosa: The fewer people who are sick at a given time, the fewer hospitalizations and deaths we have. The fewer ventilators we need. We know when health facilities are overwhelmed, more lives are lost.

7. #CyrilRamaphosa: The massive search in infections means we have to tighten restrictions again to slow down infections.

8.#CyrilRamaphosa: In view of the rising #COVID infections cabinet has decided to move SA to alert #Level3.
Curfew is from 10pm - 4am
Bars and gyms have to close by 9pm
Indoor gatherings are limited to 50 people + outdoor gatherings to 100
Alcohol sales: 10am to 6pm Mon to Thu
