📍Gee—a second “fleeting” exposure in NSW🇦🇺 #DeltaVariant outbreak. Security camera shows “they just passed each other in the store—never came into contact.” Just like other shopping mall. “This obviously caused some concern” by @NSWHealth govt. #COVID19🧵
2) This follows the other shopping mall case in which the index case passed within 60 centimeters of another man for mere “seconds”. This is the #DeltaVariant that is dominating UK 🇬🇧, ravaged India 🇮🇳, and surging across Europe and US right now.
3) Let this sink in — both fleeting exposure infections with #DeltaVariant were from the **same man**, the same index case. They know for certain it came from him also via genomic sequencing match of the strain of the virus. It definitely came from him.
4) Dr Fauci warned recently: “The problem you get into … is that a single dose only provides about ~30% effectiveness [against #DeltaVariant]—so that is really an issue you gotta be careful”. Fauci seems to push 2 doses now to stop #DeltaVariant

5) Delta is as serious as it can get. Vaccines still work but there is now a lot more breakthrough hospitalizations and deaths than before. We need to mask and mitigate ASAP.
6) #DeltaVariant is surging worldwide. US and continental Europe are going to be slammed very hard soon. Double vaccinate ASAP.
7) almost everywhere #DeltaVariant has gone, it has dominated. But it sneaks up underneath dropping Alpha variant cases.

2) It just exploded in the U.K. It went from a minor variant to now more than 90% of the isolates in the U.K.," Fauci said the variant has a doubling time of about two weeks and currently accounts for 20% of the isolates in the U.S., which are newly diagnosed infections.

The variant, first emerged in India, has quickly swept the globe. WHO officials said that delta has been found in at least 92 countries.

Sydney 🇦🇺 #DeltaVariant outbreak growing—NSW recorded another surge of #COVID19 cases—16 new infections recorded overnight. There are now 37 cases linked to the Bondi (shopping mall) cluster that had the “fleeting” exposure cases. Lockdown now considered.
