Story 31- is about how Bhagwan Shiva granted undepleting pouch of gold to Kulabhooshana Pandyan & about importance of vedic rituals.

Kulabhooshana Pandyan ruled Madurai Kingdom & was a great Shiva Bhakt.He took care of people needs & all were happy.He was very proud about himself &started to ignore & disrespect the brahmins who performed yagnas & vedic rituals. As a result,the rainfall declined.There was water
shortage.So people were suffering for water & food.Also no yagnas were performed.People started migrating to other places.Pandyan was not happy with the happenings.He went to Alayam &worshipped Sundareswarar to help his people as they are suffering because of drought.
Sundareswarar didnt seem to listen Pandyan's pleas as he ingorned& disrespected the brahmins who did yagnas&vedic rituals.Dejected Pandyan was unable to see& hear about the suffering of his people.He also rejected food.He prayed to bhagwan shiva to help his people. In his dreams
Shiva appeared as Siddhar and told Pandyan about his mistake & tge reason for failure of rains in his kingdom.Also told about the importance of vedic rituals & yagnas - respect & protection that should be given the brahmins chating vedas.Vedas enlighten & remove the ingorance.
Siddhar also gave a pounch of gold coins which never gets depleted. Asked him to donate to people to end their sufferings.Also asked him to respect & protect the brahmins who chant vedas & do yagnas.Then soon kingdom will receive required rainfall & he disappeared.Pandyan woke up
with a pouch in his hand.He was suprised and happy with blessings of Sundareshwarar.He kept the pouch on his thorn did puja & worshipped.Then he distributed the gold to people.Also gave gold to brahmins to continue the vedic activities,he asked them to conduct yagnas.
Whenever he took gold out of pouch,it got replenished.He also used the gold for renovating temples.Because of his deeds,rains were there in his kingdom at regular intervals.Soon prosperity returned & everyone were happy.

Avudaiyarkoil,TN - Dedicated to Shiva - was built by Manikkavasagar who was earlier a minister of Raja Arimarthana Pandyan
Also known as Thirupendhurai Kovil.Manikkavasagar(Vadhavooran) had built this temple with
money that the Raja had entrusted him for purchasing Arabian horses.Vandhavooran was a shiva bhakt & was thinking of finding a Guru to get proper Upadesham.
He had to pass by a place called Tirupperunthurai.As he was passing by place,he heard chants of Vedic hymns & was drawn to it.He saw an old man sitting under a Kuruntha tree,that very moment he felt, that person was his Guru.
Story 30- is about how Bhagwan Shiva came as a cheif soilder along with Shiva ganas as soilders for his devotee Soundara Samanthan

Kulabhooshana Pandyan ruled Madurai Kingdom.His army commander was Soundara Samanthan.He was a very brave man and was a devotee of Bhagwan Shiva.
He did selfless service to Sivanadiyars.There lived a hunter Sendirayan - he was chief of the hunter community.He was a terror
And many victories made him arrogant.He was planning to attack the Pandya kingdom. Kulabhooshana Pandyan got this news from his spy network.He wanted to strengthen his army by recruiting new people.So he gave his army commander Soundara Samanthan this task.

Indra Dev prayed to Shiva Lingam in Kadamba vanam with Golden lotus-Madurai
Chitragupta is said to have born on Chitra pournami day so he is worshipped & his birthday is celebrated in South indian states.
Birth of Chitragupta - Brahma Dev gave Yama Dharma, the work of punishing or rewarding the souls of people, based on their actions in life.
At time passed,Yama was not able to maintain the correct Paap/ Punya done by people.He committed mistakes.He took lives of wrong people as the records were incorrectly maintained.Yama felt bad and he told about this problems to Brahma Dev.Brahma Dev thought about this.

Thirugnana Sambandar & Appar(Thirunavukkarasar) travelled together to various Shiva Alayam to spread shivam & bhakti among people.They both reached Thirumaraikadu.
Thirumaraikadu(Vedaranyam) -
Appar & Sambandar were asked to enter the temple through side entrance.The main door was locked by Vedas many years ago.Appar&Sambandar sang devotional hymns praising Shiva, after which the gates opened & closed.After which main door opened for all.
Story 18- it is about how Bhagwan Shiva protected Madurai when Varuna Dev sent the giant waves to destroy the city.

Abhisheka Pandyan was ruling Madurai Kingdom & he was very devoted towards Chokkanathar/ Sundareshwarar.Abhisheka Pandyan used to perform Abhishekam to Chokkanathar regularly.On the Tamil month of Chithirai (April/May) on Chithirai Nakshatra-Pournami (Full Moon) day
he performed all type of Abhishekam to Chokkanathar/
Bhagwan shiva.On that very same day,Indra Dev also used to worship Sundareshwarar & perform Abhishekams.He had to wait until Abhisheka Pandyan Poojai got over.After that,Indra Dev performed Shiva poojai & returned to Indralok.

The great Maratha Raja #ShivajiMaharaj had worshiped Devi in this mandir incognito on 3 October 1677.We can see the declaration & paintings in the temple premises.
A framed painting by Madras Maratha Association,shows Maratha warrior,kneeling before Devi & offering her a lotus.
Mandir dedicated to Devi Kalikambal (Kamakshi) &Kamateswarar.Initially,mandir was built close to seashore,but in 1640,it was relocated to its present site.
