@DrBiden @FLOTUS, being a Lifelong Educator & animal lover, you may want to know that #dolphins will be captured off #Taiji coast, Japan for 6 months starting from September 1, 2021. On inquiry, you will likely be told that this is tradition.

@DrBiden @FLOTUS, in fact, such capture of #dolphins in Japan for sale to aquariums worldwide only started in 1969 after the Flipper TV program which aired on NBC from 1964 to 1967 gave the idea that dolphins could be exploited that way.

@DrBiden @FLOTUS, the quota for capture of #dolphins in #Taiji for sale to aquariums was 1749 dolphins for each of the last 2 years. A trained dolphin sells for more than US$100,000. This is the main reason for the dolphin drive hunt, not tradition.

@DrBiden @FLOTUS,fishermen target dolphin families bc babies swim slowly. 95% of the #dolphins captured cannot be sold to aquariums. They are brutally slaughtered in #Taiji cove in full view of one another in blatant violation of animal cruelty laws.

@DrBiden @FLOTUS, #baby #dolphins are driven back out to sea without their #mothers so that they do not count towards the quota of allowable catch. Baby dolphins less than 5 years old will not survive without their mothers. They will suffer and die.

@DrBiden @FLOTUS, Japan is a 1st world nation and the 3rd largest economy in the world. It is highly inappropriate for a wealthy 1st world nation to capture #wildlife for sale around the world, especially in these times of the #6thMassExtinction

@DrBiden @FLOTUS, many nations are making huge efforts & sacrifices to mitigate #climatechange. All #whales large & small play a vital role in promoting #phytoplankton growth which forms a very big part of carbon capture in nature.
