10) Australian govt further estimates there are 308 infected travelers entering AUS every month—which means 7 hotel quarantine breaches / month!

AUS is extra worried because it has among the lowest vaccines in the world. Almost all of its population is vulnerable with a breach!
11) Why is one hotel #COVID19 breach bad? Because it triggered 98.4% of all cases in Melbourne soon after. Don’t endanger your friends - mask & vaccinate & beware airborne

💡VIRAL LOAD of vaccinated versus unvaccinated #DeltaVariant who were hospitalized—2 keys findings:

📌93% lower risk of needing O2

📌 Faster drop in viral load in breakthroughs

📌However, in *first 6 days*, viral load of breakthroughs = unvaccinated! 🧵

2) vaccinated breakthroughs have much milder asymptomatic illness. Note this does not mean vaccinated have more infections - just that *if infected*— it’s much more milder. Risk of #DeltaVariant infection is much lower (some say 40%-64% lower, some studies say 70-79% lower). Image
3) Also, vaccinated breakthrough #DeltaVariant cases also get neutralized very quickly within days instead of weeks. This is great news. The body fights it off fast with the help of vaccines.

But again, there is risk to others in the first week as shown in viral load above. Image

3) here is the latest @CDCgov report… what a mess. So much drama and so many cases and so much suffering could have been prevented has we acted faster. And why the hell did it take a leaked CDC internal memo to warn the world?!?!

2) “The war has changed” is very similar to the ‘Pandemic 2.0’ language that I have been warning for months and months now with #DeltaVariant. This is not your old slow Wuhan 1.0 strain anymore.

📍1 in 5–Breakthrough & “Persistent Symptoms”: in fully vaccinated health care workers, lower neutralizing antibody titers ➡️ breakthrough #SARSCoV2 infections. Most were mild, but persistent symptoms occurred in ~1 in 5 (19%) breakthroughs for >6 weeks.

2) And this wasn’t even #DeltaVariant — this was the older winter #B117 #alphaVariant from the UK 🇬🇧— so we expect #DeltaVariant to be maybe worse given the viral load. Also viral load only slightly higher in the breakthroughs.
3) Dr Hyde is right that it could be an overestimate since they probably missed a lot of asymptomatic cases. But still, even among symptomatic breakthroughs- that’s a lot.
