#BombayHighCourt is hearing the plea by Bar Council of Maharashtra & Goa seeking directions to permit lawyers to travel by Mumbai Suburban local trains.
Hearing before Chief Justice Dipankar Datta and Justice GS Kulkarni.
The Court was informed in the administrative committee meeting on July 29 that the Centre and State government will work out modalities for granting permission.
Sr Adv Milind Sathe appearing prays for directions.
AG: Anil Singh ASG invited railway officials from all railway lines - Western, Central and Harbour. It was decided that the members will approach the association or bar council for letter from the association or council.
AG: The State disaster management authority were reluctant because in first wave lawyers were considered as front line workers.
AG: But this time they have listed only front line workers. But I will convince them.
Court: the difference between the first situation and now is that the situation has improved because of vaccine.
It is understood that a person below 18 yrs cannot be a lawyer. So all lawyers are above 18 yrs of age.
Court: Plus the whole point of vaccine is you take it and then you can leave your homes. For lawyers who have no taken vaccines yet, they can arrange for themselves.
ASG: Once this system starts we can also issue 6 monthly passes..
Court: Is there a comprehensive plan for near future? Because it is not like the roads are in a good condition. Look at the condition. It takes 3 hours one way.
Matter kept on Thursday for further consideration.
