#Breaking: #MadrasHighCourt rules that "right to be forgotten" cannot exist in sphere of administration of justice, particularly when it comes to judgments; HC deviates from its initial, prima facie view that accused have a right to have names redacted from orders once acquitted.

Court observes that there is no law in India such as the General Data Protection Regulation for EU which includes a "right to erasure". Without such statutory backing, Court cannot issue any directions on the "right to be forgotten", Court holds.

"There must be a proper policy formulated ... failing which, such an exercise will lead to utter confusion. This Court must take judicial notice of the fact that the criminal justice system that is prevalent in this country is far from satisfactory."

Referring to earlier order: "Court felt that it had to come to the rescue until legislature ultimately enacts #DataProtection Act. However, on a deeper review, this Court has taken cognizance that the same is not as simple as it sounded."
