The #CaliforniaRecallElection starts in less than TWO WEEKS, on Monday, August 16. What is it, and why should you vote in it?
Let's go through it and hopefully answer your questions. 🧵 1/13
Recall is a process to remove someone from elected office before their next regular election. It's meant for when one's very presence in office is an emergency that must be ended ASAP.
Republicans are trying to abuse recall to remove Gov. Newsom just because he's a Democrat. 2/
You may have heard for months now about signature-gathering for “the recall”. Five previous petitions didn't get enough signatures to trigger a recall election.
But the sixth attempt did (barely), so the recall election is happening. And it's happening THIS MONTH. 3/
Gov. Newsom is successful and popular, so why worry?
Because it's an odd election at an odd time of an odd year, so it's all going to come down to TURNOUT.
You have until Tue, Sep 14 to drop it off at City Hall.
If you want to mail it, we recommend no later than Tue, Sep 7 so you don't have to worry about mail delays. The real deadlines are postmarked by Tue, Sep 14, arrival by Sep 17. 11/
So that's what you need to do:
- Check your registration.
- Register to vote if needed.
- Get your ballot in the mail Mon, Aug 16.
- Cast your ballot by Tue, Sep 14.
1. We used the wrong version of the two-calendars image upthread. This one should be easier to read on some devices. Sorry! 2. For more info and more ways to help #StopTheRecall, see indivisiblesf.org/vote .

If you want to give public comment on one of the earlier presentations (or on the AAO and ASO themselves), you should call in now: tel:14156550001,,1460343108##
The time to raise your hand will come fairly soon (but not yet). #SFBudgetAppsCom
They're going to take the commenters who need interpretive services first because the interpreters will no longer be available after 10 PM, so they're asking commenters who don't to hold off on raising their hands. #SFBudgetAppsCom
@DefundSFPDnow is even offering to text you when public comment starts so you don't have to stream the hearing all day. Use their Google form here: docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAI… (or you can read our live tweet thread all day long!) #SFBudgetAppsCom
What's this all about anyway? We've been working to bring awareness to the deeply-rooted problems w/ police accountability and racist policing in San Francisco, and fix them through our local legislature and in our budget! This hearing is crucial to that effort. #SFBudgetAppsCom
(You might have seen a couple of different tweets from us this morning, now deleted. We failed to notice that since the item was heard in committee, it won't be available for public comment at the full #SFBOS. Sorry! Thanks to the person who pointed this out to us.)
TODAY at 2pm: The #SFRulesCom will discuss and hear public comment on a potential ballot measure to amend the City Charter to repeal the arbitrary minimum of 1,971 full-duty sworn officers.
In the last two years, we’ve learned that #resistance means getting involved at all levels of government. Our members have doorknocked with @swingleft, lobbied for police demilitarization in Sacramento, met often with Congressional staff and rallied for #FamiliesBelongTogether 1/
Our members are working at the state level to craft new gun control legislation and organizing at the City level for a #publicbank. We continue to pressure @SpeakerPelosi and @SenFeinstein to sign onto the #GreenNewDeal. We want #Medicare4All and we won’t accept a racist wall. 2/
In the last two years, we’ve organized countless phone banks, text banks and postcard campaigns. We’ve learned about burnout. We also learned how crucial it is to amplify the voices of organizations that have been around and in the trenches far longer than we. 3/
