Congrats to @Aspiration & @AndreiCherny & @JosephNSanberg on their public listing (via $IPVF):

I am a firm believer that the financial sector NEEDS to play a greater role in #ClimateActionNow.

A thread on *how* via our own work @SEALAwards /1
Last year SEAL took on an Impact Campaign calling on the largest financial institutions (like @AmericanExpress, @Chase, @Citi) to create a credit card - much like @Aspiration - that used its rewards pool for sustainable causes.

/2
While this is *NOT* investment advice w.r.t. @Aspiration or $IPVF...

I wanted to highlight some findings from our launch memo:

Demographics support idea of sustainability in financial services:

/3
Consumer reception to the idea of our theoretical @EcoRewardsCard (which had a rewards structure of 0.60% to charity, 0.60% cash back) was strong.

Suggesting a large TAM and therefore charitable impact pool:

/4
This favorable consumer sentiment to a purpose-centered card was consistent across many demographics.

Selected exhibits (from a 3,003 person survey) here:

/5
Our team (shout out to sealawards.com/impact-team-20…) also conducted 173 one-to-one interviews with potential Eco Rewards cardholders to...

...answer the question of why some would "give up" their rewards. Please read our launch memo for key findings.

/6
And there are strong psychological underpinnings to why a purpose-centered card - like @Aspiration or our @EcoRewardsCard concept - could work:

Taps into self-actualization by helping beat the existential challenge of our time

/7
As @rorysutherland so brilliantly laid out in "Alchemy" (audible.com/pd/Alchemy-Aud…)...

...we need to look at the irrational idea ("people would never give up rewards!") to find magical solutions to the #ClimateCrisis

/8
For interested parties in purpose-centered credit cards (whether $IPVF investors, #ESG media, etc), I would highly encourage you to read our full 47-page @EcoRewardsCard concept memorandum:

/9
Once again, congrats to @Aspiration, @AndreiCherny, @JosephNSanberg & Team.

Our society needs solutions like this more than ever.

Please join our campaign calling on Starbucks to #UpTheCup:

- their plastic-lined paper cups are NOT recyclable

- but truly recyclable cups are ALREADY used in UK, EU

#UpTheCup builds on past work (like @standearth's own Starbucks campaign).

However, another 5 years have passed.

Let's remind @Starbucks that citizens want this *actually* solved.

I feel honored to present the winners of our 2018 @SEALAwards Environmental Journalism Awards. Without exaggeration, their work is the tip of the spear in fighting climate change. Why? Thread follows 1/ sealawards.com/environmental-…
Having an informed & engaged public is required to make the political, lifestyle & societal changes needed to mitigate (let alone beat) #climatechange. These great writers fight a battle on many fronts. Translating science & policy research into digestible content is HARD /2
I read 100s of applications for @SEALAwards Research Grant program receives (thanks to partner @BeInstrumentl). My brain hurts afterward. Explaining research like this - to our gnat-like attention spans - on a deadline & w/ few resources requires deep & irreplaceable skills /3
