Let me just say the room is buzzing and now piano music fills the space. Can’t drown out the din though. #ableg#cdnpoli
They announced that they’ll be staring in about 5 minutes OMG it is definitely packed.
People are still arriving, they said, and there's still some seats left. "Get to know your neighbour" they said.
Rob Anders is the first speaker - he gets a whole lot of applause.
RA: my guess is the reason you're here is the same reason I'm here - you're frustrated.
(Applause)
RA: We're jailing pastors. I know Artur Pawlowski.
Narrator... mhmmm calgary.ctvnews.ca/central-albert…
Anderson gives a shout out to his friends at the Rebel for being present - to ear shattering cheers and applause - for covering that which other media won't cover.
Narrator: Pretend I didn't share that MSM post earlier I guess.
RA: David Yurdiga wasn't allowed to run for the CPC because he questioned mandatory vaccinations.
Says his congregation has been spied on.
Says he voted for Sloan for #CPCldr
RA: I got Covid - I had a fever, I had pain, I couldn't climb the stairs. I was in bed for 3 weeks
RA: But thank God I had a doctor willing to prescribe IVERMECTIN.
Oh wow.
"Some of this stuff I'm talking about, this is the stuff of Stalin and the KGB and the Soviet Union"
Says he doesn't want to be dictated to about guns from Ottawa. Says Kenney is dragging his feet.
RA: Has anyone been held accountable for all the doors they kicked in in High River (during 2013 floods) taking firearms using a list they shouldn't have had.
Says no matter what you call it, carbon tax etc, "no conservative should be in favour of higher taxes".
RA: Sloan has faced 7 fines for attending church, he's "had the courage to say Wuhan China was the source" of COVID;
"because we don't believe in mandates.. we don't believe in the carbon tax, this my friends, this is Alberta!"
Eric Lauder (sp) former MP for Calgary-Centre next:
EL: Sloan said "vision, vision, we need vision". If you went to the Peace Tower, there's scripture verses on each side; from Proverbs: Without a vision, the (altogether now...) people perish.
Lauder introduces Art Hanger, former Reform MP
Talking about the good old days; says the PCs received a gut punch in the 90's and were reduced to two seats - says the conservatives have lost their way and need another. Says there's a lot of collusion btwn parties in the east
Hanger says we will never know the truth because media's been bought out and we can't trust the east.
You've heard that victory is sweet, but I'll tell you that unless you have struggled, believed in God, you know little about the sweetness of victory.
Hanger says this man, Sloan, when the leader of the CPC booted him from the party, without due process - shame on them. Why did they do that? Was it because his values frighten them? The truth they feared? Did he not conform to their unspoken agenda? All of it. All of the above
Hanger asks why the people have come today. Because they want to walk with him? (applause) Take some of the burdens he carries? (applause) Because they see a threat to freedom and desire his leadership? (to applause)
Hanger asks that everyone will tell their friends, etc because the future of their children and grandchildren is at stake. Says the clock is ticking and the incumbent MP Blake Richards has to go - "he's done enough damage". Sloan comes out to thunderous applause.
Sloan is excited. Says people are so excited to see him. "We're starting a movement that will grow across the country, but we're going to take a hiatus for the next 36 days in Banff-Airdrie".
Says he's sick of Conservatives apologizing for their values.
Sloan: the CPC leadership race was the most expensive of any race in any country ever.
Says he enjoyed travelling across Canada and their message of politically correct leadership telling them nothing.
Says he was kicked out for getting a donation from "somebody who was racist"
Sloan says it wasn't really about that - it was about a leader who wanted to be liberal light. Quash conservatism. All the money he raised will now go to their next CPC candidate, Sloan says.
Sloan says all legacy parties are corrupt. Says there was no talk about alternative treatments for covid "in use all over the world". And now they want mandatory vaccines for every man, woman, and child. Almost worse the liberals want to censor the internet"
Sloan says the conservatives are just as bad. Says Trudeau wants to trample on every freedom - "like freedom to choose what medical treatment you want"; bringing up abortion, saying only women should get a choice, doctors don't. "YOU WILL NOT GET AWAY WITH THIS JUSTIN TRUDEAU!"
Scary applause, screaming, cheering? - my gawd.
Sloan: where were the conservatives? You forced them to be silent - many brought this up. Conservatives stood by while businesses closed, suicides, domestic violence and eating disorders skyrocketed. They were silent.
Sloan: they were silent on quarantine hotels until a couple of women got assaulted. O'Toole says he's against mandatory vaccines - I don't believe him. He's silenced many. He wanted to legalize drugs for gay men but won't look at drugs to treat Covid like Ivermectin.
Sloan says O'Toole failed to stand up for Alberta energy by being against the carbon tax. "He also said he could afford to lose some votes in Alberta... he might get his wish." Says O'Toole didn't want anyone in his party who might attend Sloan's thing. Cheers etc.
Sloan says Richards had nothing to lose by not supporting O'Toole but chose not to. And the libs are bringing back the abortion debate - we cannot avoid controversy so we cannot back down-ever. That's why I advocate for never apologize, never back down; the only thing that works
Sloan: They take the votes here for granted - they say 'what are they gonna do? vote Liberal? I can do whatever I want.' Says when you care about Ottawa more than your constituents, we're going to come for you. And it's official, Sloan says: "I'm going to run here!" #cdnpoli
Sloan says if people like Maverick or the PPC "God bless you, God bless both of those parties, but vote for them in another riding." Says neither the NDP or Liberals can win, they've done the math, it's between Sloan and CPC Blake Richards, that's it.
"I want every single Albertan to come to this riding (Banff-Airdrie) and flood it with our message," Sloan says. "The people of this riding won't know what hit 'em."
Sloan says people have asked him "to run for Premier of Alberta" to many many cheers, but he says he'll be too busy running for Prime Minister.
Sloan says everyone will be watching this race to see if it can actually be done - if an independent can actually win as an independent. "This is the litmus test, but after that it'll be all the way to Ottawa! God Bless Alberta!"
Oh wait! He still needs 100 signatures and the paperwork is available - they hope they have 100 people from Banff-Airdrie in the room. Also, they have no money so there's a table for that too.
Fin.
PS - exciting announcements coming soon; they wanted to make sure they had a "toe-hold in the west" but they will run a few other people. Rumour has it it's his wife in his old riding and his dad against O'Toole. He's closing with a prayer to lots of cheers. And I'm out now.

“Alberta continues to take extraordinary measures to control the spread of the virus,” says UofA President Bill Flanagan.
I actually can’t tell if that was a troll - it was delivered expertly.
Money for universities is good news though. Especially for science. #ableg
This update is on $20M for the Li Ka Shing Centre for Health Research Innovation, applied virology institute.
It’s rather uplifting to hear the gains they’ve been making in research and development in HepC vaccines. I lost a cousin to that a year ago yesterday🥲
Dr. Houghton says they’re working to make Alberta, and the UofA a “globally competitive site for biotechnology” and says that is possible through support from the government.

The black armband view of history: Australian historian Geoffrey Blainey described views of history such that "much of [pre-multicultural] Australian history had been a disgrace" and focused mainly on the treatment of minority groups (especially Aboriginals) #ableg#abpoli
"The expression 'black armband view of history' has been used to describe a brand of Australian history which its critics argue 'represents a swing of the pendulum from a position that had been too favourable, too self congratulatory'." aph.gov.au/About_Parliame…

JK: This is moving away from inquiry learning and a return to basic skills, a return to phonics which were banned in some curriculums.
AL: I heard from a parent this weekend who said why are they learning like 18 different ways to do math? Can they not just learn the easiest way?
Q: how will this curriculum transition to core values?
AL: we are looking to ensure we build the strong foundation in K-6 then 7-10
JK: And these will transition into later grades but we start with earlier grades?
AL: Yes JK, we're building 7-10 now and that will be introduced in 2022.
Q: Indigenous content?
JK: there's more. We've introduced black history in Alberta, and Asian history.
Albers: the bylaws will allow for members to hold the political part of the party, leader and caucus, accountable.
Narrator: As in the leader does not "hold the pen".
Modry: Knowing the merger between FCP and Wexit was taking place, I started building the policy and governance document. Started with Wildrose, looked at FCP, UCP, and also Leslyn Lewis' (from the CPC leadership).
