The Australien Government has made an ad about Carbon Capture and Storage, and it’s surprisingly honest and informative. #CCS
This one’s part of our Climate Shitfuckery series in which we picking off each of our government’s (and many governments’) solutions for taking as little serious action as possible on the climate crisis.
We started with the Kyoto Carryover Credits; then EV policy (FFS); then the infiltration of our science agencies. And in this HGA we look at one of the key pillars in our Government’s “Technology Investment Roadmap” to reach Net Zero: Carbon Capture and Storage aka CCS
There's more to come and it’s my hope that these HGAs will help improve literacy around climate and energy policy, so that more people are equipped to recognise bullshit "solutions" to the climate crisis when they spot them in the wild - not just in 🇦🇺 but elsewhere too 🌎
In writing this HGA I've relied heavily on the data and work of experts in the field who've done the heavy lifting when it comes to documenting the long history of failures of CCS - and I'd like to share a few of them here 🤓
First up @TheAusInstitute which has produced 3 excellent reports on CCS:

1. "Sunk Costs" - documenting CCS's failure to meet every, single, target, even those set by the industry.

The Conclusion is stone cold brutal. The authors are killers. I love it. australiainstitute.org.au/wp-content/upl…
2. "Money for nothing" - focusing in on the Australian government's experiments with CCS and the eye-watering amounts of $$ that have been sharted away on this bullshit.

This shows why CCS is better described as a PR campaign than a technology australiainstitute.org.au/wp-content/upl…
And the spending spree continues, here's the latest bunch of CCUS (Note the "Use") projects we’ve just funded - that's our money going to fossil fuel companies instead of renewables and #EVs business.gov.au/grants-and-pro…
And 3. "Gorgon-tuan problem": zooming in even further to Australia's CCS adventures with a closer look at the CCS failfest at Chevron's Gorgon LNG plant in WA. Don't let the pun in the title discourage you from this excellent investigative piece ;) australiainstitute.org.au/wp-content/upl…
Thanks so much to @RichieMerzian @AliaArmistead @MarkOgge and others
for research assistance & answering many questions so I could better understand this topic 🙏
Also to @simonahac who first told me about Gorgon & got me to look into it. Simon’s been writing on CCS for a while and has great info on small scale CCS projects that actually do good work (eg cement) – something I hope he’ll elaborate on! reneweconomy.com.au/does-best-ccs-…
And @MichaelEMann, distinguished professor of Atmospheric Science and Debunking Climate Shitfuckery, for his guidance and advice on CCS. Here’s one of the many places he talks about it: dw.com/en/carbon-capt…
Richie & @pollyjhemming also made this perfect hilarious video picking apart @AngusTaylorMP's spin on CCS (Well done Angus great job)

👋 BTW this SpinBin series is a service to society & needs way more people to know about it, check their YouTube channel
A few others who have written brilliantly imo about CCS include @BernardKeane with perceptive and characteristically straight-shooting articles like this one crikey.com.au/2021/08/09/fos…
And @PeteMilne4 who worked in the oil and gas industry for 20 years, and now works for the public by exposing the industry’s shitfuckery – such as this incredibly detailed account of Chevron's Gorgon CCS failure boilingcold.com.au/times-up-on-go…
And @KetanJ0 *of course* has some brilliant words to say about CCS reneweconomy.com.au/carbon-capture…
This is a painful long-form piece on the spectacular failure of the USA's "clean coal" posterchild at the Kemper coal plant, Mississippi - which managed to sink 7.5B on CCS in one of the poorest states in the nation. theguardian.com/environment/20…
I also discovered Chris Vanderstock @cvanderstock's channel about Renewables/Tech: he did a video on CCS here in Australia, which I'm going to give a plug because it was really helpful. I'll be following more of his work. Keep up the great work Chris!
And my final plug goes to Joel Fitzgibbon @fitzhunter for this terrific example of State Capture & Storage stenography for @GlobalCCS - another major beneficiary of Aussie taxpayers. Articles like this rely on readers not knowing much about CCS. afr.com/policy/energy-…
I mean, Gorgon is held up as a success, no mention of it’s repeated failures. And the 65 CCS projects mentioned rely on you not knowing what Enhanced Oil Recovery is, which completely negates the CCS part. It's the kind of bs I hope this HGA will help people to recognise as bs
Thanks to @yahtzio for creating the awesome CCS animations for this HGA. And to @EllenBurbidge who brought it all to life with usual perfection and who is now finally on twitter ✨
Of course none of it would be possible w/out our Patrons, who make the Honest Government Ads possible and allow me to spend ridiculous amounts of time researching, writing, editing the videos + paying our team. If you value our work, please join them here: patreon.com/TheJuiceMedia
I'll be back soon with the podcast companion to this HGA in which we'll discuss CCS, and other bullshit solutions to the climate crisis which will get us all killed, with an expert guest.

And the PG version, which I'll post here when it's ready.

Till then, take care
💛Giordano
Oh and the team at @MichaelWestBiz has also produced excellent coverage of the CCS scam — such as: michaelwest.com.au/revisiting-fai…

The Australien Government has made an ad about its hotel quarantine and vaccines policies, and it’s surprisingly honest and informative.

And here's a thread to go with it... 🧵
I've avoided making a video about our Govt's handling of the pandemic for the past year - for a couple of reasons, one being that so much is already being said about it. But with the Delta outbreak in NSW verging on being out of control...
...I wanted to help amplify some critical messages experts have been trying to communicate: eg. that #COVIDisAirborne, and the direct links between the failure of the current quarantine system and the constant outbreaks we’re seeing – such as the one gripping Sydney right now...

Not many people have heard of #GISERA - the alliance between five of Australia's biggest gas/fracking companies, and the #CSIRO, our trusted and beloved science agency.

But hopefully that's about to change now (*checks views on the YouTube video*)
And that's a good thing coz it's wildly concerning when Govts allow scientific agencies to be infiltrated, & parasitised by companies with an interest in playing down the harmful effects of gas/fracking on environment, our health and emissions - in the middle of a climate crisis

The Australien Government has made an ad about Australian Values for people applying for citizenship, and it’s surprisingly honest and informative.

🚨 Content warning: references to sexual assault.

What to say... I usually like to focus on a specific issue or policy so we can help people get their head around it. But then there's times when it feels we need an Honest Government Ad that attempts to sum up the shitfuckery - and this definitely feels like one of those times..
Here's the actual “Australian Values” which the Australian Govt has made part of its new citizenship test: immi.homeaffairs.gov.au/help-support/m…

They’re mostly good values. Would be grouse if our Government lived up to them...

The Australien Government has made an ad about the new media legislation it just passed, and it's surprisingly honest and informative!
Our Government just passed a new law, the News Media Bargaining Code, that fundamentally alters the relationship between Big Media & Big tech, so I thought we could do with an Honest Government Ad about it. Especially since other Govts are sure to try and emulate it... 🌎🌍🌏
Huge thanks to @Lizzie_OShea for giving me expert advice on the legislation and how it effectively aligns the interests of Big Media & Big Tech, a perceptive analysis that many seem to have overlooked. You can read more of Lizzie's take here overland.org.au/2021/02/facebo…

The Australien Government wasn't allowed to speak at the latest Climate Summit – so it made an ad about its climate policy instead, and it’s surprisingly honest and informative.

This is a special double-length Honest Government Ad, featuring our first ever time-travel sequence because there's just so much shitfuckery to cover ✨
Thank you @RichieMerzian (and others who shall not be named) for helping me get my head around this gordian knot of a story, and to make sure graphs and figures are correct. Any errors are of course my own - and the government's

The US Government has made an ad about QAnon and it’s surprisingly honest and informative. 🐇
Friends, here’s our latest Honest Government Ad. I haven't seen any satire about #QAnon. It’s ripe for being satirised. But as always I'm not here just to have a lol, I wanted to also offer an analysis that might help some of those who've been sucked into the rabbit's rectum 🐇
Coz we need people who care about truth & justice (as QAnons claim to be) to remain tethered to reality. We need the people who would normally be on the frontline in the fight against shitfuckery, not to be it's cheerleaders! Thx to @Scottludlam for sharing thoughts w/me on this
