You will likely get a solid education at most programs, so put less emphasis on metrics and "rank" in favor of trusting your gut impression about where you will fit in best.

Residency days are long, but the four years go by fast - jump in with both feet and make every day count! You will never again have access to these types of structured educational opportunities.

UF has ten robust neurology fellowship programs, including programs like TRACS (Trauma, Concussion and Sports Neuromedicine) that are uniquely reflective of UF.

Most of our graduates do pursue a fellowship (either at UF or other strong programs), but they are certainly well prepared to begin practice in general neurology if they so choose.

Our program offers many avenues for support. Every resident has multiple formal mentors - career, peer, research - and all of our faculty (including the chair) have open-door policies for informal mentoring.

We have a departmental wellness program directed by our APD Dr. Patterson, and a dedicated Wellness Chief. Our biggest resident support is each other - we have a wonderfully collaborative group!

Opportunities for residents to have a voice in their experience through weekly meetings with the PD and APDs, and monthly meetings with the chair. We enjoy removing barriers to ensure everyone has the best experience possible!
6/ 💖 Favorite aspects of the program(2/4): Optional tracks include a dedicated R25 with six months of protected research time and an education track for those interested in formal MedEd training.

Early immersion in neurology as a PGY1 - our interns spend four months on neurology and get to explore future careers through subspecialty electives.

Wonderful institutional support for the neurology department and amazing departmental support for the residency program - our chair is our biggest cheerleader.

Gainesville is a hidden gem! There are so many great outdoor activities such as natural springs, running trails, and a lovely botanical garden - with pleasant weather to allow outdoor fun year round.

Our downtown has lots of wonderful local restaurants. It's an easy day trip to other fun places like the beach, St. Augustine (oldest city in the country), or Orlando amusement parks.

UF Neurology is on the rise! Dr. Okun has assembled a fantastic group of faculty educators in his six years as chair.
