Dear Urban HCWs,

As people get sicker with delta, and rural sites are forced to perform procedures that are just at the tip of our capabilities, please be kind if you see what looks to you like shoddy workmanship from a rural site. 🧵/1 #NurseTwitter #AbLeg

If our chest tube dressings are not exactly how you would do them in an ICU, know that we have done our very best, and that we don't always have the newest and best supplies. We have been underfunded in that respect and are doing what we can to stabilize and send out. /2 #AbLeg

If you see in the charting that we didn't do vitals on our critical patient as they would have in a tertiary centre, know that we are typically working with one or two nurses only for some rural ER's at a time. There are simply not enough nursing hands to get to it. #AbLeg

If we forget to call you to give report before our patient shows up in your department, it is super annoying I know, but know that we probably haven't done it on purpose or to be malicious. When you only have 2 staff and a full dept of critical pts, sometimes we forget. #AbLeg

We ARE trying. We are trying our hardest at being jacks of all trades and feeling like masters of none. Rather than calling the sending ER and lambasting them, give us a joke or commiserate that we are all in this together. Because we are. /5 #AbLeg

We know you guys are also under pressure, but there are more resources in the cities. Please bear with us if things aren't done to your standard. We care about our patients and are doing our best, as patients arrive sicker and sicker to us. /6 #AbLeg

If we ever get to the end of Covid, maybe we can have a huge nursing party. Urban and rural can come together and say "holy crap, that was HECTIC, but we made it!". Until that can happen, please be kind when you receive a patient from us. We are trying really hard. /End #AbLeg
