The COVID-19 public health emergency has forced the postponement of the Global Energy Show in Calgary.
The event was to draw 30,000 visitors from all over the world and serve as a major draw to attract international investment to our industry. 1/5 #ableg#yyc
If Jason Kenney and the UCP had been more prudent in their reopening decisions and acted sooner to address the surging fourth wave of COVID-19 the event may have been able to go ahead. 2/5 #ableg#yyc
Instead, workers, businesses, and our global reputation have been harmed by the negligence of a government that went into hiding. 3/5 #ableg#yyc
We are making international news for the wrong reasons at a time when we should be promoting the sustainability, responsibility and diversity of our industry to the world. 4/5 #ableg#yyc
We need real leadership to get through this pandemic. There is no economic recovery without it. 5/5 #ableg#yyc

Alberta is facing a crisis in our hospitals but the UCP can’t see beyond the chaotic spectacle of their own infighting. 2/5 #ableg#abhealth
It is clear that the responsibility for Alberta’s pandemic mismanagement rests on the shoulders of every UCP member and therefore it is incumbent on them all to take responsibility and chart a more effective path on behalf of Albertans. 3/5 #ableg#abhealth
First, my deepest condolences to the loved ones of the 24 Albertans who died of COVID over the past day. This appalling death toll and the human suffering of those infected and those denied critical healthcare was preventable. 1/14 #ableg#abhealth
This is a crisis of the Premier’s own making. Neither he nor Dr. Hinshaw explained why they have failed to act for weeks when it was obvious something had to be done. 2/14 #ableg#abhealth
And while in one short breath Jason Kenney offered an apology, in many others, he made even more excuses, he talked up his own record... 3/14 #ableg#abhealth
🧵 As we learn 53 Albertans have had their orthopedic surgeries cancelled at the Royal Alexandra Hospital as the hospital has run out of doctors... let's take a look at the mess Jason Kenney has made in health care. 1/6
According to AHS, there are 163 beds closed in dozens of hospitals across the province due to critical staffing shortages. That's from their own map: albertahealthservices.ca/br/Page17594.a… 2/6
There are operating theatres closed at the University of Alberta Hospital.
There are delayed surgeries at Northern Lights Regional Health Centre in Fort McMurray.
We have lost obstetric services in Whitecourt, Barrhead and Sundre. 3/6
So… be warned. Small rant incoming. Settle in. It’s about economic growth, equity, and investing in our future with the greatest (and most obvious) wisdom possible. #ableg#abfuture 1/17
It’s about childcare and Jason Kenney’s deeply ideological and also… stupid… betrayal of young families in Alberta.. and the economic growth upon which we are all pinning our hopes. #ableg#abfuture 2/17
Here’s the thing… more and more economists around the world agree that childcare is the single best way for a government to grow its economy (on dollar for dollar return on investment basis.. for all the bean counters among you 😉). #ableg#abfuture 3/17
And yet the government is removing the tools that our frontline health care providers, and all Albertans, rely on to keep themselves informed of COVID in our communities.
Now, it appears that rising hospital admissions will be our only concrete signal that things are getting out of hand.
Hospitals that are more stretched than ever before will now be asked to serve as the last line of defence in emergency surveillance. 3/15 #ableg#abhealth
