[Thread] 1. What's the LATEST on SA's #VaccinePassports?

@healthza:
1. If all goes well, digital vaccine cards will become available to vaccinated people in SA on Oct 5
2. @healthza will announce next week if cards will be available to both fully + partially vaccinated people
2. How will you get your digital vaccine card?
1. You'll have to download it from a website (it won't be the #EVDS, it will be a new website)
2. If you have a smart phone, you'll be able to download it onto your phone + keep a record (similar to what you do with a plane ticket)
3. What should you do if you don't have a smartphone?
1. You will need someone with access to the internet (on a computer = fine)
2. You will be able to download and print the digital card (the printed version will have a QR code that can be digitally scanned)
4. Each card will have a QR code. What's the purpose of that?
The QR code will contain info on your vaccination (which shot, when/where you had it...). The info will be linked to your ID nr, so when someone scans the QR code, they'll be able to confirm the info pertains to you.
5. Will all fully vaccinated people with their details in the EVDS be able to download their cards on Oct 5?
@healthza: yes. You only need to download it if you need it for something (e.g.for your employer). No need to do so if you don't need it immediately, it won't disappear.
6. What security measures will be implemented to prevent people from falsifying digital vaccination cards?
For now, QR codes, of which the info ideally can't be changed once generated. But it's a bit more complicated than that. More here: bit.ly/3CUSHjX
7. What other security measures will be considered? The digital cards that will be released on 5 Oct = only a start. More security measures will be come available as time goes by, for instance digital or cryptographic signatures. What are these? Find out: bit.ly/3EY8oJ4
8. Is there an international standard for vaccine passports that SA is following? No, there is no agreed upon international standard yet, each country currently does what it thinks is necessary. But there are rough WHO guidelines that SA is following: bit.ly/3um0MuV
9. Will you be able to use SA's digital vaccination card to travel internationally? Yes, but it will depend on the rules of each country. SA and the UK, are, for instance discussing how to make each other's cards acceptable to both countries.
10. Want an easy breakdown on vaccine passports? I spoke to Peter Ndoro this week on how things will work:

[Thread] 1. #Ramaphosa:
1. 60% of 60+ and 50% of people of 50-59 years have received at least one #COVID vaccine dose
2. @HealthZA's goal = to vaccinate 70% of adults by the end of the year. This could save up to 20 000 lives.
2. #Ramaphosa:
1. To reach the goal of vaccinating 70% of adults by the end of 2021, we need to vaccinate 16 mil more this year
2. That means we need to vaccinate 250 000 people each week day
3. #Ramaphosa
1. SA is launching #VoomaVaccination weekend on Friday. This weekend is the first in a series of Vooma weekends.
2. Why? Because not enough people are turning up for vaccinations (we need to do 250 000 per day to reach our goal; today we did 146 190) ImageImage

[Thread] #JoePhaahla: We note the allegations of financial misconduct against @HealthZA DDG Anban Pillay (Pillay was the acting DG in the health dpt when the #DigitalVibes contract was awarded).
2. #JoePhaahla: There is possible misconduct from 9 gov officials. Not all 9 are working in @HealthZA. The chief financial officer has moved to another dpt. There are 6 officials in @HealthZA who we may need to take action @. If we add the suspended DG (Sandile Buthelezi) = 7.
3. #JoePhaahla: @HealthZA will institute disciplinary action @ implicated officials in the SIU's #DigitalVibes report as a matter of urgency. All those implicated by the SIU will receive suspension letters by the end of today (Thu, 30 Sep), incl DDG Anban Pillay.

[Thread] 1. What is the average nr of daily #COVID19 #vaccine doses #VaccineRollOutSA now administers (average = past 7 days)?
167, 041 doses

Is it lower than last week's average?
Yes, 21, 677 doses fewer (188,718 average)

Data: the fabulous @outlierafrica of @mediahackza
2. What % of adults has SA fully vaccinated so far? 20.2% (8.1 mil adults)

What % of the entire population has SA fully vaccinated so far? 13.4%
3. How long will it take to fully vaccinate the remaining % of adults = 40 mil people?

(@healthza's goal = 35 mil doses by Dec, take note: doses, not people):

1. With #JnJ only: 6 mnths 13 days (1 jab needed @ this stage)
2. With #Pfizer only: 12 mnths 4 days (2 jabs needed)

NEW: [Thread] 1. #JnJ 2day announced (via a press release: bit.ly/3AFFCu0):
1. JnJ's #COVID19 jab = more effective when given as a double shot, 56 days - 6 mnths apart (vs. just 1 shot)
2. The efficacy of 1 shot doesn't wane, but a booster shot makes it more effective.
2. When a 2nd #JnJ shot is given 56 days after the 1st one, the 2-dose combo provides:
* 100% protection @ severe #COVID19 14 days after the 2nd shot
* 75% protection @ symptomatic (moderate to severe/critical) COVID19 in the countries where the jab was tested
3. When a 2nd/booster shot of the #JnJ #COVID19 jab was given 56 days after the first shot, trial participants' antibody levels rose to 4-6x times higher than after just one shot.

[Thread] 1. #Phaahla on VACCINE PASSPORTS:

1. The aim of vaccination certificates = not to punish people, but to protect each other
2. Vaccination certificates will allow SA to introduce policies to open up more activities, e.g. larger sports events, for vaccinated people
2. #Phaahla: Vaccination certificates will allow vaccinated people more access to activities than unvaccinated people. But it won't deprive unvaccinated people from accessing essential services, e.g. health clinics. You won't need certificates to access such services.
3. How will vaccination certificates be accessed?
#Phaahla:
1. A link from which you can download your certificate will be sent to your phone (you can only download it if you have a smart phone)
2. Your vaccination site will be able to print you a certificate

[Thread] 1. #Phaahla: Vaccinations of people below 18:
1. #Pfizer has been approved for use on people of 12+
2. SA, for the next month or two, will remain focused on vaccinating people of 18+ (higher risk people)
3. Main priority = 50+ (most vulnerable) before our 4th wave
2. #Phaahla:
1. We're not ignoring the fact that #Pfizer has been approved for use by people below 18 yrs + schools want learners vaccinated
2. We're hoping by the end of Oct we will have covered enough adults to then review our policy + consider vaccinating people of below 18
3. #Phaahla:
1. @healthza believes it will be irresponsible to "start running around" vaccinating teenagers before we haven't reached enough adults (high risk group)
2. Goal = to have 50% of people of 50+ vaccinated first (currently = at 30%).
