Sheer disaster. The effects of such decisions will appear in 20 years time.
I am disappointed with BJP.
Defeatists are arguing that English is already too deeply encroached to make any change in course. Similar arguments were also made for the continuation of the colonial rule.
I was hopeful of some changes initiated by the BJP in the NEP 2020. But unfortunately, BJP is proving itself to be a party with no commitment, no long term vision, and no awareness of the civilizational threats to India. It is another opportunistic element in a defeated nation.
When the British inflicted famines on India and created their infamous concentration camps of mass deaths (supposedly for improving the health and nutrition of the Indians), many desperate Indians emigrated as indentured labour, signing agreements of bondage on their own will.
In other words, “the Indians were asking for it”. The British prided themselves as reluctant administrators who were drawn to ruling the country after Indians begged them for it.
People who make these arguments should compare with other multi lingual societies with free movement, like Europe. Or for that matter, even tinier regions like Switzerland. What do they do?
I have debated all these points hundreds of times on Twitter, but there is no point.
Many Indian languages are gigantic in terms of the number of their speakers or the size of the economies which run on top of them.
The Anglophone elite slice of the Indian economy is tiny, but appropriates almost all the taxes collected from India.
What is this? Colonialism.
There is no other reason but deep colonialism that never went away which is the reason why India remains under the subjugation of the English caste (not my word, another person from the Anglophone elite coined the phrase). I disown my membership from this caste. Screw this caste.

The share of English in global GDP is steadily falling, just as the share of Asia is rising. This is inconvenient for bygone powers like UK, whose global status is predicated on the use of English. Hence English is being pushed in India, directing its GDP into the Anglo-economy.
The argument for using English would have made some sense in the era when USA was the undoubted motor of global economy. This was the case for most of 20th century.
Now that era is finished. USA still remains an important power, but it will also diversify its language portfolio.
The trouble is that a lot of these people have never interacted with people who completed their professional education in their own mother tongues (whether French, German, Chinese, Korean or whatever) but still picked up good expression in English.
The most ridiculous situation is when these counter-examples to their argument stare right at their face, and they think they somehow are bolstering their argument instead of weakening it.
Fact: All these German people studied in German medium.
I teach in Germany and in German medium. Most of my students are excellent English speakers, I would say better than 90% of Indians *who studied in English medium*. I give the option for making course presentations in English, but almost always they choose to present in German.
It’s by no means the job of the Indian government to explain the intricacies of the Śāstrārtha. They don’t have the competence or training. *I* don’t have them either. The various Sampradāyas which maintain temples/Tīrthas have that competence. Why is it not their job to explain?
Why is the Indian government is in this role of maintaining Hindu temples?
Why? Because the British had that role. First the East Indian Company, and then the head of the Anglican Church (British Queen) was managing Hindu temples (and eating their revenue). Now the Indian state!
This is the stupidity of interpreting Hindu customs through the lens of Christianity. Neither Swayamvara nor Kanyādāna are about the woman becoming the property of the husband. Copy+paste criticisms of marriage from the west, because our liberals have no brains of their own.
In Vedic tradition, a man becomes eligible to be a Yajamāna (the one who officiates a Yajña) only after he is married. And the Yajña must be performed by the Pati (man head) and Patnī (woman head) together. They are partners of Karma (action) in Dharma. The woman is not property.
The educated dumbass would say Kanyādāna means the woman is being treated as property and given to the custodianship of the man. This is ridiculous. If she is property, why does she have Adhikāra (rights, authorities) of her own? Why does she chant the Mantras (which she must)?
